Job description

The Maintenance Manager is responsible for planning, coordinating, and managing all solar PV system installations from initiation to completion. The role ensures that projects are executed safely, on time, within budget, and in compliance with South African electrical and renewable energy regulations. The manager leads the installation teams, maintains quality standards, and ensures customer satisfaction across all solar installation projects.

Key Responsibilities:

Project Management
  • Oversee and manage all solar PV installation projects from site preparation to system commissioning.
  • Plan project schedules, allocate resources, and monitor progress to ensure timely delivery.
  • Manage budgets, control costs, and report on project profitability.
  • Coordinate with design, procurement, and logistics teams to ensure project readiness.
  • Conduct pre-installation site assessments and final handovers.
Team Leadership
  • Supervise and manage multiple installation teams and site supervisors.
  • Conduct regular team briefings and ensure clear communication of project objectives.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, quality workmanship, and safety compliance.
  • Support skills development and training of technicians and apprentices.
Technical Oversight
  • Review and interpret solar design layouts, electrical schematics, and installation plans.
  • Ensure all installations comply with SANS, NRS, and local municipal regulations.
  • Conduct technical inspections and quality control checks at all stages of installation.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve installation or performance issues on‑site.
  • Oversee system testing, commissioning, and customer handover documentation.
Health, Safety & Compliance
  • Enforce compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and company HSE policies.
  • Conduct toolbox talks, risk assessments, and safety audits.
  • Investigate incidents or near misses and implement corrective measures.
  • Ensure all team members adhere to safety standards, especially when working at heights or with electrical components.
Customer & Stakeholder Management
  • Act as the primary point of contact for clients during installation projects.
  • Provide clear communication regarding timelines, site progress, and technical updates.
  • Manage client expectations and resolve any on‑site issues promptly.
  • Ensure professional, courteous interactions with clients and subcontractors.
Reporting & Administration

Qualifications and Experience:

  • National Diploma or Degree in Electrical Engineering (or related technical qualification).
  • Valid Wireman’s License or relevant electrical competency certificate preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in solar PV installations, including at least 2 years in a managerial or supervisory role.
  • Proven experience with grid‑tied, hybrid, and off‑grid solar systems.
  • In‑depth knowledge of inverter technologies (e.g., Victron, Sunsynk, Growatt, Huawei, etc.).
  • Strong understanding of SANS 10142 and other relevant South African regulations.
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to project sites nationally.

This role is based in Modderfontein and will require travel to installation sites.
