Job Description
Purpose of the Position

The Lecturer position is an integral role within the academic career path and requires a candidate to demonstrate excellence in teaching and learning and university service. Additionally, the candidate should commit to social responsiveness, including sharing expertise and engaging with the community.

Key Responsibilities
Teaching and Learning
  • Demonstrate excellence in postgraduate teaching by submitting a reflective portfolio that critically reflects on teaching and learning practices.
  • Develop and implement effective learning environments, including face-to-face and blended approaches.
  • Utilise learning management systems (LMS) and online platforms for teaching and learning.
  • Employ effective assessment practices and reflect on student feedback.
  • Participate in relevant conferences, workshops, and excellence awards in teaching and learning.
  • Supervise or co‑supervise 2 MBA mini dissertations per annum as ratified by the Faculty Higher Degrees Committee.
  • Complete the CTL and other T & L development courses.
  • Develop and update study guides according to CTL requirements.
  • Integrate responsible management and sustainable development goals (SDGs) into the curriculum.
  • Provide evidence of the impact on and transfer of competencies to students.
  • Teach on the MBA or PGDM programme.
Academic Leadership, Management, and University Service
  • Participate in school and faculty committees, contributing to the overall academic leadership and management.
  • Provide guidance and support to students, including advising and recruitment activities.
  • Be actively involved in Think Tanks and Pitsos.
  • Present at least one Bon‑Bon annually.
  • Participate in the scientific committee.
  • Participate in programme meetings.
  • Editor/Co‑editor of an academic journal.
  • Reviewer of an academic journal.
  • Member of outside committees.
  • External examiner for MBAs and PhDs (if holding a PhD).
  • Internal examiner/moderator for MBA and PhDs (if holding a PhD).
  • Engage in consulting work (application of expertise).
  • Member of a conference organisation committee.
Social Responsiveness
  • Engage in community engagement initiatives, such as media commentary, education, or activities benefiting specific communities.
  • Participate in awards, prizes, grants, or other acknowledgements that recognize service at any level.
  • Contribute to academic citizenship and demonstrate a commitment to sharing expertise with the community.
Minimum Requirements
  • A Master’s degree in Entrepreneurship, New Venture Creation, Innovation or related fields.
  • A minimum of five years’ teaching experience at a reputable Higher Education Institution, preferably in a business school context.
  • A minimum of three years’ experience in the development of programme outcomes and module content at PGDip and Executive Development Levels.
Added Advantages & Preferences
  • A minimum of three years’ industry‑related experience.
Key Functional/Technical Competencies
  • Computer literacy in MS Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint), e‑mail and internet.
  • Clear evidence of strength in teaching and learning in a blended environment and research and innovation activity.
  • Knowledge of modern platforms (e.g. whiteboard technology, eFundi, etc.) to enhance the evolving learning and collaboration environment.
  • Knowledge, skills and practical experience in Data‑driven Decision Making, Analytics, Artificial Intelligence, Natural language processing or Machine Learning.
  • Excellent problem‑solving skills.
  • Demonstrated high standard of interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multi‑disciplinary environment.
  • Demonstrated language skills (in English and at least one other official South African language) to function optimally within the multilingual environment of the NWU.
