Emeris – City, Cape Town has a vacancy for a Part‑Time Lecturer in the following module:

Semester 1
  • Game Design 3A
Key Performance Areas

Prepare for lectures based on provided content. Supplement content with own expertise. Deliver assigned modules to the stated outcomes and contracted hours. Mark student assessments and provide constructive feedback. Support student academic success by implementing workshops where needed. Perform academic admin, such as capturing assessment marks and reporting on student success. Provide content feedback. Engage with professional development opportunities and attend initial training sessions.

Job Purpose

Lecture based on provided content, ensure students are guided and supported in their learning. Mark student submissions and engage with campus teaching and learning.

Minimum Qualification Requirements
  • Ideal:
    • Honours Degree / Masters in a design field, such as BCIS Multimedia, Bachelor of Film Arts (Game Design) or Digital Arts with relevant work experience in the Game Design industry.
  • Alternatively:
    • An Honours degree in Digital Design/Media/ Graphic Design / Multimedia
    • An Honours degree in similarly related fields with creative development or a similarly related field to the third‑year level.
    • An Honours degree in similarly related fields with programming or a similarly related field to the 2nd year level.
Minimum Work Experience Requirements
  • Minimum of 2 years’ industry experience, demonstrating a collaborative, cross‑platform, and multidisciplinary approach to researching, conceptualising, prototyping, and producing digital games across various genres and formats for both desktop and mobile platforms. The ideal candidate should have a strong aptitude for Design Thinking, Creative Strategy, and iterative problem‑solving as applied to advanced game development workflows. This includes evidence of the ability to guide and justify design decisions, engage critically with player experience, and translate insights into action‑ready design solutions.
  • Applicants must present a comprehensive, layered portfolio that clearly showcases their ability to engage with the full game design pipeline, including (but not limited to): Ideation and conceptualisation, Systems and mechanics design, Level and interaction design, Rapid prototyping and iteration, Playtesting and evaluation, Narrative or experiential design (where applicable), Cross‑disciplinary collaboration with art, development, audio, and UX teams.
  • Experience mentoring, leading, or collaborating within development teams will be considered advantageous, especially in the context of preparing final‑year students for industry‑aligned production environments.
