Lawyer - Protect Group

Location: Cape Town, South Africa

Contract: Permanent, Full-Time

Reports to: Head of Legal

Salary: Competitive and based on experience

Must have: Must be fluent in English & must be an admitted attorney (0–3 years PQE)

Key responsibilities
  • The role includes but is not limited to:
  • Assisting with drafting, reviewing, and negotiating international commercial agreements, including employment contracts.
  • Supporting legal and compliance work for the development and rollout of new products (both regulated and unregulated).
  • Managing and coordinating visas for staff travel worldwide.
  • Providing legal and compliance support for new ventures, operational initiatives, and ad hoc projects.
  • Liaising with external consultants and other legal service providers.
  • Supporting the HR and recruitment function with employment‑related issues across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Advising internal stakeholders (under supervision) on legal risks, compliance obligations, and regulatory considerations.
  • Monitoring changes in relevant laws and regulations—particularly employment law, insurance regulation, consumer protection, and international compliance—and reporting insights to the Head of Legal and Chief Financial Officer.
Required Skills and Experience
Legal & Technical Competencies
  • Strong legal research and analytical skills (critical competency).
  • Admitted attorney with 0–3 years post‑qualification experience.
  • Interest or experience in contracts, compliance, insurance regulation, or regulated products (advantageous).
  • International exposure or experience across multiple jurisdictions (beneficial).
Communication & Interpersonal Skills
  • Excellent written and verbal English, with strong overall communication skills.
  • Outgoing, collaborative, and comfortable working closely with colleagues daily.
