IsiXhosa Language Lecturer in the Foundation Phase Unit

SANTS is an accredited Private Higher Education Institution focused on initial teacher training and continued professional teacher development through a distance mode of delivery. SANTS seeks to appoint one suitable candidate in the Foundation Phase Unit in a permanent capacity for the isiXhosa language. Applicants are to note that they will be required to attend regular contact meetings at SANTS’ Head Office and should therefore be residing in the proximity of SANTS’ Head Office.

Responsibilities

Working in the Academic Department, under the leadership of the Academic Head, the incumbent will be expected to fulfil the following duties of a Lecturer in the Foundation Phase Unit as described in the minimum requirements:

  • Working under the leadership of an Academic Head with the focus on one of the following language modules: isiXhosa.
  • Working in an online environment related to Distance Education.
  • Curriculum development of modules in the programme based on Foundation Phase Education.
  • Presenting and coordinating undergraduate modules. This includes data analysis, moderation, report writing, marking, and providing online academic support to students.
  • Using a learning management system.
  • Presenting support in an E-learning environment.
  • Reviewing and developing assessments for distance education.
  • Coordinating external markers.
  • Contribute to internal and external moderation processes.
  • Contribute to Quality Assurance processes.
  • Contribute to research-related processes.
Minimum Requirements
  • BA with isiXhosa as 2nd or 3rd year subject/module and a Post Graduate Certificate (PGCE) in Foundation Phase with isiXhosa as a school subject.
  • An honour's degree in Education.
  • At least two years of teaching experience in the Foundation Phase.
  • At least two years of experience at a Higher Education Institution in Foundation Phase Education.
  • Experience and expertise in curriculum development.
  • Knowledge of and experience in facilitation in an E-learning/distance education environment.
  • Registration with SACE.
  • Fully computer literate and proficient in English.
  • Access to stable Wi‑Fi/data and a functional laptop or desktop computer.
Required Competencies (Skills, Knowledge and Behavioural Attributes)
  • Knowledge of the South African education system regarding Foundation Phase.
  • Appropriate language and communication skills, including report writing.
  • Ability to apply knowledge and skills in teaching and coordination.
  • Ability to work as part of a team, under pressure, meet deadlines and work independently.
  • High level of computer literacy.
  • Competent and confident to engage effectively with online assessment.
