Responsibilities
- Implementation of project management of systems and processes;
- Implementation of client-specific project management guidelines and manuals;
- Stakeholder management and needs analysis;

Job Outputs
- Detailed Electrical Engineering of MV and HV (11 kV up to 400 kV) including the development and checking of Prefeasibility studies;
- Feasibility studies;
- Manufacturing, installation and commissioning witnessing;
- Electrical schematic diagrams & Diversification and load factors;
- Knowledge of substation protection schemes (MV and HV);
- Knowledge of protection schemes modeling of protection schemes and definition of protection settings;
- Knowledge of power metering specification and interface to substation Energy/Building Management Systems;
- Substation AC & DC requirements, lighting calculations, modeling and layouts;
- Substation earthing, earthing system designs & earthing layouts;
- HV & MV equipment specifications of Electrical Equipment including Switchgear, Distribution boards, Transformers, primary plant, secondary plant, power factor correction, control & power Cables, Lighting, Scada and communication systems;
- Passive fire protection systems layouts and specification;
- Specification of construction standards of installation;
- Interface with energy efficiency and providing energy efficient electrical solutions;
- Interface and familiar with quality of power supply requirements and evaluation;
- Interface and familiar with control & protection systems requirements and evaluation with regard to substations;
- Knowledge of system studies (e.g. short circuit; load flow and protection co-ordination);
- Utilize vendor data and work with other disciplines as required for engineering and design;
- Participate and perform squad checks of vendor data and drawings from other disciplines;
- Develop and check equipment purchase specification and develop RFQs (e.g. MV and HV substations, OHL, power transformers, Power factor Correction & related equipment in substations);
- Develop technical scope of work and tender documentation and bills of quantities for construction contracts;
- Develop tender documentation, adjudicate tenders, provide re-measurement of works and approve contract claims;
- Prepare project scheduling and planning, developing basic Bar charts for Electrical Engineering input to project management team;
- Manage progress and quality control activities for equipment manufacture;
- Conduct vendor inspections and factory acceptance testing of equipment;
- Manage HV & MV switchgear and specialist equipment contractors;
- Provide field engineering support to construction and commissioning teams;
- Project hand over and close out documentation;
- Provide guidance and mentorship to less experienced engineers;
- Assist in the setting up of standard engineering documentation and methodology for the electrical engineering unit;
- Assist in the preparation of tenders for increasing the Electrical unit order book (workload);
- Familiar with project life cycle economic evaluation and justification;
- Preparation of project specifications during the project design phase;
- Construction Monitoring of projects during the construction execution phase;
- Must be familiar with health & safety requirements on substation construction projects;
- Must be familiar with the latest construction regulations regarding requirements on substation construction projects;
Business Case
This should include: position in relation to the budget and business plan against progress on the budget, utilisation of the resource, fit into the Business Unit/Office and service line, impact on clients, firm fee forecast to support this appointment, etc. Note: (Use additional paper if required):
- Replacement of project manager (Lynton de Waal) that resigned with effect of 1st of May 2017.
- Budget for I&B (Energy & Transmission) can only be met with sufficient skilled and experienced resource, this includes SL PM specifically KZN region hence the request for a Senior Project Manager/Engineer to be appointed to achieve budget and to generate more work out of business development.
- Clients can be better served with the immediate replacement of a Senior PM as there is no one else to take the workload.
- It is too expensive to operate these projects and serve Clients from Gauteng Region.
Minimum Required Qualification
- Bachelor degree in Engineering (B Eng / BSc Eng / B Tech Eng).
- Professional Engineer /Technologist (Pr Eng / Pr Tech Eng with ECSA).
Minimum Experience, Knowledge & Skills
- A minimum of 8 -10 years post graduate experience, multi-disciplinary experienced gained from client, consultant and /or contractor perspective.
- Professional Registration with relevant Project Management bodies (ECSA, SACPCMP and/or PMI).
- Solid fundamental knowledge and experience in the application of the methodologies and processes as described in PMBOK.
- Previous track record in successfully generating new business would be advantageous.
- Ability to liaise with relevant stakeholders at all levels.
- Computer literacy in MS Office and MS Projects at an advanced level.
- Sound electrical engineering knowledge and experience in MV and HV (11 kV up to 400 kV) environment.
- An intimate knowledge of local and international standards and codes.
- Be able to develop engineering documentation from first principles.
- Be able to work within a disciplined engineering environment.
- Conversant with Digsilent (or other equivalent package) electrical power systems modelling and analysis software would be advantageous.
- Knowledge of overhead power line design (using PLS-CADD software) and construction will be advantageous.
- An intimate working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, Access and Microsoft Project.
- Advantage will be knowledge of Auto CAD and/or Microstation CAD programs.
- Experience with Eskom and local Municipalities processes and systems would be advantageous.
- Be well acquainted with local equipment, manufacturers, suppliers and installation contractors.
- A thorough knowledge of the OHS Act, pertinent SANS and IEC codes and standards and industry practices.
- Good communication and people management skills for effective interface with other engineering disciplines, the client and contractors.
- The ability to work independently and with limited supervision.
