The overall purpose of the position:
As a Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) Officer, you will be an integral part of our growing HSE team. Your main role will be providing hands-on support for the operations and maintenance of SOLA Group's utility-scale Solar PV sites. You will help develop and maintain robust EHS programs to ensure compliance with all legislation and best practices. This position requires frequent travel.

Duties & Responsibilities
Summary of Responsibilities:
- Ensure strict adherence to all applicable Environmental, Health and Safety legislation and regulations.
- Assist in the development, implementation and maintenance of the Integrated Management System (IMS) for Health, Safety and Environment ensuring its relevance and compliance with ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001 standards.
- Support the HSE team by advising on HSE aspects through ongoing Operations and Maintenance of the projects.
- Assist in preparing of ESG reports, accurately recording key metrics for internal and external stakeholders.
Site Support & Oversight
- Conduct routine HSE inspections and audits across multiple sites, ensuring compliance with associated agreements and identifying areas of improvement.
- Assist in identifying and minimizing exposure to potential hazards on sites.
- Proactively identify and eliminate or minimize exposure to potential hazards at all operational sites.
- Liaise effectively with client/HSE representatives, government officials and regulatory authorities to satisfy all requirements.
- Provide support to O&M site teams, helping to identify their HSE-related training needs.
Incident Management & Risk Management
- Maintain a meticulous register of all HSE incidents and non-conformance reports (NCRs).
- Assist in the investigation of workplace incidents and accidents, helping to implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
Environmental Stewardship
- Assist with the compliance of environmental authorizations and permits, ensuring all site activities comply with environmental requirements.
- Support the implementation of environmental policies, procedures, and controls aligned with the Environmental and Social Management Plan (ESMP) and project-specific Environmental Management Programme (EMPr).
- Help monitor and verify that environmental impacts are consistently kept to a minimum, maintaining records of all environmental performance activities and incidents.
Documentation & Reporting
- Support the development and maintenance of comprehensive health and safety files for all operational plants.
- Assist in reviewing contract HSE files to ensure compliance.
- Complete all required reporting for a submission to various stakeholders, including monthly reports to management and ad-hoc reports as required.
Key Performance Indicators
- Maintain a safe and healthy work environment with no major incidents across all sites under your responsibility.
- Ensure all HSE conditions, as per relevant agreements are consistently adhered to.
- Support the achievement and maintenance of full compliance with all defined HSE KPIs.
Desired Experience & Qualification
Minimum Requirements:
- A minimum of (2- 3 years) practical experience in Health, Safety and Environmental.
- Must have an industry recognised qualification in Health, Safety, and Environmental, a bachelors degree would be advantageous.
- Must have previous experience in a similar role in Operations and Maintenance for solar PV power plants.
- Previous experience with ISO system maintenance would be advantageous.
- Must be registered with the South African Council for Project and Construction Management Professions (SACPCMP) or a recognised professional designation with South African Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (SAIOSH) will be advantageous.
- Must be fully proficient in English (verbal and written communication), additional languages would be advantageous.
- Must be fully computer literate (MS Office Suite and Google App Suite).
