Looking for a new, exciting challenge for 2023? A leading inbound tour operator, based in Cape Town, with operations within Southern Africa is looking for a general manager to join their team. The company prides itself on the service they deliver, so you will need to have the skill set to successfully lead our team and continue to grow the business. If you are motivated, can motivate those around you, and are passionate about the travel and tourism industry, then this role is for you.

Key Responsibilities
  • Overall management of the business: ensuring the efficient day‑to‑day running of the business including operations, finance, and administration
  • Reporting to the Directors on financial performance, operations, etc.
  • Human Resources management: staff recruitment, training, and development
  • Achieving/exceeding sales targets and managing operating expenses to achieve/exceed budgeted profits
  • Implementation of appropriate policies and procedures to ensure the professional operation of the business
  • Ensuring the successful and smooth operation of all departments including manning services of passengers on tours
  • Management and administration of the “Tour Operator” software programme the company runs
  • Relationship building and networking with industry stakeholders including Travel Trade Partners, Suppliers, DMO’s and SAT
  • Contract negotiations and documentation with sub‑contractors and suppliers
  • Overseeing the marketing and trade presence of the business
Key Requirements
  • Management experience at a senior level reporting to Directors
  • Relevant qualifications and/or experience in travel and tourism
  • An in‑depth understanding of an inbound tour operator
  • Experience dealing with international and domestic travel trade
  • The ability to prioritise workload and lead a business
  • Excellent networking and relationship management skills
  • Strong attention to detail is essential as you will be required to control and administer the “Tour Operator” software programme
  • Excellent time‑management skills
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Analytical and problem‑solving skills
  • The ability to lead and grow a team of dedicated employees
  • Technologically savvy including experience with Microsoft, Pastel accounting software, OTA management reservations systems
