The ideal candidate holds a BCom Honours in Finance/Accounting with at least 10 years of experience in an SME environment and has strong knowledge in IFRS and SARS. Our client, a growing small-to-medium enterprise in the distribution sector, is seeking an experienced Financial Manager to lead their complete financial function.

This is a unique opportunity to be a strategic business partner to the General Manager and play a pivotal role in growing the business to its full potential.

The Role

As Financial Manager, you will manage the full financial function, providing accurate and reliable financial information to support business operations.

Starting as part of the parent company's structure initially, you will transition to become a direct employee of the business as it achieves full independence.

Key Responsibilities
Strategic Business Partnership
  • Act as a trusted financial advisor to senior management
  • Liaise with external stakeholders including auditors, banks, insurance brokers, and BBBEE advisors
  • Coordinate annual statutory audits and ensure compliance
Financial Reporting & Compliance
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual management accounts
  • Produce Annual Financial Statements in accordance with IFRS
  • Ensure board reporting and statutory compliance
  • Maintain working knowledge of SARB regulations
  • Manage all SARS submissions including VAT, income tax, and payroll taxes
Cash Flow & Working Capital Management
  • Oversee daily cash book operations and bank reconciliations
  • Prepare comprehensive cash flow forecasts
  • Optimize working capital ratios including stock and debtor management
  • Manage foreign currency tools and hedging options
Operational Finance
  • Complete general ledger reconciliations with detailed variance analysis
  • Manage accounts receivable and payable functions
  • Oversee stock control and reconciliations
  • Maintain fixed asset register and depreciation schedules
Budgeting & Planning
  • Lead annual budget preparation process
  • Prepare quarterly forecasts and variance analysesDevelop cost-saving strategies
  • Provide analytical insights for decision-making
Payroll & Human Resources
  • Full payroll function including onboarding and terminations
  • Human capital management
  • Statutory compliance for all employment-related matters
Risk & Insurance
  • Conduct annual risk assessments
  • Manage insurance declarations and claims
  • Implement controls to mitigate business risks
BBBEE Management
  • Monthly and annual BBBEE reporting and scenario planning
  • Coordinate verification audits
  • Track transformation investments and provisions
Essential Requirements
Qualifications
  • BCom Honours in Finance / Accounting or equivalent financial degree
Experience
  • Minimum 10 years as a Financial Manager in an SME environment
  • Proven track record managing the complete financial function
  • Need to be able to work in a fast paced, pressurized environment where results get rewarded not necessarily efforts
Technical Skills
  • Syspro ERP system experience
  • VIP or similar payroll software
  • Advanced Excel proficiency
  • Strong understanding of IFRS, SARS regulations, and statutory compliance
