Job summary

A leading agricultural firm in Johannesburg seeks an experienced accountant to maintain financial integrity, manage reporting deadlines, and assist in audits. The ideal candidate will have a B. Com. degree, strong financial skills, and at least 5 years of experience in finance or accounting. Proficiency in Excel and experience with Syspro are advantageous. A valid driver's license is required for travel.

Minimum requirements for the role :

  • Must have a tertiary qualification in Accounting (B. Com. degree required)
  • Completion of Board 1 and SAICA Articles is advantageous
  • Minimum 35 years relevant experience in an accounting or finance environment
  • Strong financial acumen with proven experience in financial reporting and analysis
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written), with strong organizational, presentation, analytical, and interpersonal abilities
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Working knowledge of ERP systems; experience with Syspro is advantageous
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment
  • Deadline-driven with strong time management and prioritization skills
  • Must have a valid driver's license with reliable transport as well as be willing to travel as required

The successful candidate will be responsible for :

  • Maintaining the integrity and accuracy of Master Data within the General Ledger.
  • Submitting timely monthly COGNOS submissions in line with group reporting deadlines.
  • Preparing and submitting VAT returns within the required timeframes.
  • Compiling and submitting monthly treasury confirmations.
  • Generating monthly cost statements, verifying their accuracy, and distributing them to Business Unit owners.
  • Preparing and submitting budget and forecast data, ensuring accuracy and adherence to submission deadlines.
  • Assisting in the preparation and coordination of internal and external audit processes.
  • Ensuring compliance with internal controls and assisting in the development and implementation of financial policies and procedures.
  • Supporting the finance team with ad hoc financial analysis and reporting as required.
  • Assisting in the preparation of annual financial statements in accordance with IFRS or applicable accounting standards.
  • Reviewing and validating financial data to ensure accuracy and completeness before submission to management.
  • Staying up to date with legal and regulatory developments related to accounting and financial reporting.
  • Acting as a backup for finance-related processes when required.
  • Handling ad hoc tasks as required by management.
