Primary Industries & Regions SA – West Beach SA

We have an opportunity for a Field Operations Manager to be partof our South Australian Research and Development Institute Divisionwithin the Department of Primary Industries and Regions.

The primary purpose of this role is to manage and deliverscientific outcomes from state and national monitoring projectsoperated by the SARDI Oceanography Subprogram, including multipleregional operations undertaken for the Integrated Marine ObservingSystem (IMOS). Key regional IMOS activities include the delivery ofkey long-term, sustained ocean observations through the SouthAustralian and Victorian National Mooring Facilities and the SouthAustralian Coastal Wave Buoy Facility.

The Field Operations Manager provides up-to-date scientificexpertise and support to the Oceanography Subprogram within theMarine Ecosystems Program at SARDI Aquatic Sciences. TheOceanography Sub-program undertakes physical and biogeochemicaldata collection and hydrodynamic modelling research to understandocean circulation, marine connectivity and dispersal, oceanclimate, and lower trophic ecosystem ecology across SouthAustralian, Victorian and southern continental shelf waters.

The role is responsible for managing state-of-the-artoceanographic near-real-time and delayed mode shelf, coastal andestuarine oceanographic and biogeochemical/ water quality observingsystems and ensuring data streams meet national and internationalstandards.

The role contributes to the sustainable management of SouthAustralia’s aquaculture industries and marine resources bydelivering high-quality oceanographic data, scientific advice,project reports, contributions to peer-reviewed publications, andpresentations to industry and scientific communities.

The role will also pursue external funding opportunities andmanage oceanographic instrumentation assets. The role contributesdelivering the agency’s priorities including ‘sustainthe resource’ and ‘Manage risk and recovery’ byinforming the sustainable management of South Australia’sseafood and marine-based industries, effective management of marineenvironmental assets, and enhanced resilience of regionalcommunities through science-led innovation and policy advice.

Special Conditions

  • The incumbent will be required to contribute towhole-of-agency working groups developing PIRSA policyresponses to significant and emerging issues as required.
