Job description

Reference: KZN000712-KK-1 Environmental & Risk Officer KZN MIDLANDS The Environmental & Risk Officer will be the backbone of our environmental health and safety initiatives, staying on top of regulations, implementing effective control strategies, and making sure we uphold the Occupational Health & Safety Act No. 85 of 1993 and Regulations. To provide SHER expertise, guidance and support by developing programmes, policies and procedures to prevent and control any environmental aspects and impacts. Coordinate and improve SHER performance reports and administer systems.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • All incidents relevant to SHER are reported, investigated, corrected and learnings disseminated.
  • All relevant environmental authorizations, operating licences/permits are applied for and are up-to-date and compliance to conditions is monitored.
  • Ensure the company is compliant with all applicable SHER legislation.
  • Monitor SHER performance by gathering relevant data and producing statistical reports.
  • Ensure that all legal appointments are in place in terms of applicable legislation.
  • Develop and maintain the occupational health management and monitoring programme.
  • Manage all SHER site surveys, audits and assessments.
  • Drive the culture of quality, health, safety and environment.
  • Manage all SHER related training requirements.
  • Assess the site current sustainability performance, identify and prioritise the site key sustainability strategies.
  • Responsible for developing adequate plans/controls to prevent pollution, respond to emergencies and ensure business continuity.
  • Ensure compliance with system and operational protocols, policies, and procedures at site.
  • The ongoing review of the compliance for implementation of and compliance to Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s).
  • Provide detailed audit reports with findings.
  • Identify non-conformities and provide corrective action measures to prevent re-occurrence.
  • Monitor and review those corrective measures that have been implemented.
  • Maintain and enhance internal and external customer and contractor relations.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Ndip/ Degree in Environmental Management Sciences.
  • SAMTRAC (advantageous).
  • 3+ Years as an Environmental & Risk Officer.
  • Experience in implementation of ISO 14001-2015 & ISO 45001.
  • Extensive knowledge of ISO 14001:2015, NEMA, OHSA and other environmental standards.
