Credit Risk Manager position available in Bellville.

Our Retail client seeks a Credit Risk Manager with solid experience, to manage and strengthen credit risk frameworks, underwriting standards and portfolio performance for retail and corporate portfolios.

Provide credit risk oversight, modelling input, provisioning guidance (IFRS 9) and decisioning within delegated mandates to protect asset quality and support sustainable growth.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting or similar; postgraduate qualification (Honours/MCom/MBA) or professional qualifications advantageous
  • 5–8 years’ relevant credit risk experience in banking, financial services or lending environments, with exposure to both retail and corporate credit disciplines
  • Proven knowledge and hands‑on experience with IFRS 9 / expected credit loss provisioning and credit risk modelling

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop, maintain and enforce credit policies, underwriting standards and limit structures across retail and corporate portfolios
  • Design, validate and refine credit scoring models, decision rules and risk segmentation methodologies (including model performance monitoring)
  • Monitor portfolio performance, early warning indicators, arrears trends and provisioning requirements in line with IFRS 9/expected credit loss frameworks
  • Approve credit exposures within delegated mandates and escalate higher‑risk or breaches to senior management/committees
  • Set and oversee collections and recovery strategies in collaboration with Collections, Legal and Business units
  • Perform portfolio analytics, stress testing and scenario analysis to assess vulnerability and capital/allowance implications
  • Prepare regular credit risk reporting and actionable insights for the Risk Committee, executive team and stakeholders
  • Lead credit risk reviews, limit setting and counterparty risk assessments for new products, channels and significant proposals
  • Support credit model governance: model development, validation oversight, change control and model inventory management
  • Mentor and develop more junior credit analysts and contribute to capability building in the team
