Job summary

A leading recruitment firm is seeking a Construction Manager to oversee all activities related to the refurbishment of a Water Works Treatment Plant in Newcastle, KwaZulu-Natal. The ideal candidate should possess over 10 years of experience in the construction industry, particularly in Water & Sanitation projects, and hold a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering with ECSA registration. This role requires managing site teams, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, and delivering projects on time and within budget.

Job description

The Construction Manager will be responsible for leading, managing, and coordinating all construction activities related to the refurbishment of a Water Works Treatment Plant. The role requires ensuring that the project is delivered safely, on time, within budget, and in compliance with contractual, technical, and statutory requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Overall management and supervision of construction activities on site
  • Planning, coordinating, and controlling civil, concrete, electrical, and mechanical works
  • Managing site teams, subcontractors, and suppliers
  • Ensuring compliance with project specifications, drawings, and contract requirements
  • Monitoring project progress, programme, and budgets
  • Ensuring compliance with Occupational Health & Safety regulations and environmental standards
  • Liaising with clients, consulting engineers, project managers, and authorities
  • Attending site meetings and preparing progress reports
  • Ensuring quality control and adherence to construction standards
  • Managing risk, identifying potential delays, and implementing corrective actions
  • Overseeing commissioning and handover processes
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in the construction industry
  • Proven experience in Water & Sanitation infrastructure projects
  • Experience in Water Treatment Works or similar refurbishment projects
  • Bachelor’s Degree / BTech in Civil Engineering or equivalent
  • Professional Registration with ECSA (Pr Eng / Pr Tech Eng)
Additional Qualifications & Experience (Advantageous)
  • Postgraduate qualification in Construction Management or Project Management
  • SACPCMP registration (Professional Construction Manager – Pr CM)
  • Experience managing multidisciplinary works (civil, mechanical, electrical)
  • Strong knowledge of FIDIC / GCC contracts
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
