Clinical Mentor: Nursing Sciences (11-month Contract) X10 - (8372)

To facilitate in the development of learners on academic and clinical competence, professional development and the integration of knowledge, skills and attributes in simulated and real areas of nursing practice. Responsibilities include academic and clinical teaching based on the set syllabus of the relevant nursing programme, assisting with clinical accompaniment, academic administration, clinical and theoretical nursing instruction, and simulation laboratory activities. This role supports the Department and Faculty in achieving their academic goals and contributes to university initiatives aimed at enhancing the teaching and learning environment. The work integrated learning (WIL) approach must be implemented in a technological setting.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  • A three-year qualification in general nursing and midwifery or a four-year qualification in Nursing.
  • At least three (3) years training experience in an academic nursing environment or clinical experience in nursing.
  • Registration with SANC as a nurse educator.
  • A qualification in a nursing clinical specialisation is advantageous.
Key Performance Areas / Principal Accountabilities
  • Facilitation of the clinical component of the undergraduate and postgraduate programme (where relevant) between CPUT and clinical health facilities.
  • Oversee learner wellness and implement progressive discipline through an effective record-keeping system.
  • Conduct theoretical and clinical teaching and assessments for undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to support programme, personal, and professional development.
  • Monitor and evaluate learner academic progress within work-integrated and mobile technology learning environments, and assist the Head of Department as needed.
  • Manage the skills laboratory and clinical activities, ensuring compliance with SANC requirements, and coordinate clinical rosters for staff and students.
  • Ensure quality assurance through academic administration and meticulous record-keeping from recruitment to the completion of studies in a professional learning environment.
  • Appropriate level of academic and clinical knowledge in a Basic Nursing Science programme or Primary health care programme.
  • Ensures that the classroom and clinical education setting (work-integrated learning) used for teaching are conducive for learning.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team as a role-model.
  • Planning, organisational, leadership and control skills in supporting the course coordinator and with academic administration from procedures from admission to completions.
  • Computer literacy and use of WIL and mobile and technological approaches.
  • Continuous learner, ability to work in a strong work ethic environment.
