Job description
Overview

Develop and maintain an extensive wine list that complements our onboard dining options and meets the preferences of our guests onboard a cruise ship.

Responsibilities
  • Source and purchase wines from reputable suppliers, ensuring quality and value for money
  • Train and manage a team of sommeliers, providing guidance and support to ensure exceptional wine service for our guests
  • Conduct wine tastings and educational sessions for guests and crew members
  • Create and update wine menus and provide recommendations to guests based on their preferences and budget
  • Oversee wine inventory and ordering, ensuring adequate stock levels and proper storage
  • Work closely with the culinary team to ensure wine pairings are well-matched with menu offerings
  • Collaborate with the onboard events team to plan and execute special wine events and tastings
  • Maintain knowledge of current wine trends and industry developments, and make recommendations for updates to the wine program as needed
  • Uphold high standards of customer service and professionalism at all times
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures, as well as local and international regulations relating to alcohol service
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a sommelier, with at least 2 years in a leadership or supervisory role
  • Extensive knowledge of wine regions, varietals, and vintages
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to train and manage a team effectively
  • Excellent customer service skills and a passion for providing exceptional guest experiences
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Proficiency in wine service techniques and proper storage and handling procedures
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
  • Certification from a recognized sommelier program preferred, but not required
