Job description

SUMMARY: We are seeking an experienced and highly knowledgeable Chief Health & Safety Officer to lead and enforce Mine Health and Safety compliance across open cast mining operations. The successful candidate will ensure full adherence to MHSA requirements, drive a strong safety culture, and act as the primary liaison with regulatory authorities.

Key Responsibilities

• Enforce compliance with the Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA) and all site safety procedures
• Conduct risk assessments, workplace inspections, and safety audits
• Investigate incidents, accidents, and near‑misses and compile detailed reports
• Maintain all statutory safety records and documentation
• Liaise with the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy (DMRE)
• Provide guidance, coaching, and support on health and safety matters across site operations
• Ensure continuous improvement of safety standards and systems

POSITION INFO: Minimum Requirements

• Grade 12 (Matric)
• SAMTRAC / COMSOC / NEBOSH certification (essential)
• SACPCMP registration (or eligible/registrable)
• Minimum 5 years’ mining health & safety experience, with open cast mining essential
• In-depth knowledge of Mine Health and Safety legislation
• Valid driver’s licence
