Certification & Laboratory Engineer
The Client is a leader in outdoor lighting worldwide whose mission is to provide cost-effective lighting solutions for safe, comfortable, and sustainable environments. The Certification & Laboratory Engineer will be part of the Research and Development (R&D) team based at the Head Office in Olifantsfontein.
Responsible for ensuring all products comply with national and international standards. Plan, direct, and coordinate luminaires testing to ensure ongoing compliance, especially for luminaires used in explosive atmospheres.
Ensure all new and existing product models are tested by accredited laboratories and meet relevant standards. Maintain certification records and upload them to the CLIENT intranet. Liaise with SABS Certification Department and CERTEX regarding sampling, testing, and audits.
Conduct internal testing of luminaires to verify compliance with permit conditions. Coordinate with CERTEX on design changes for Ex luminaires, update quality systems, manage documentation, and ensure all necessary certificates accompany product delivery. Apply and verify unique serial numbers, and ensure client acknowledgment of receipt.
Perform safety tests according to standards, coordinate sample testing, and keep detailed records of results.
Test new components for suitability, ensure compliance with standards, and retain certificates. Obtain revised IA certificates for luminaires with approved components.
Conduct photometric tests on prototypes, modify luminaires for better performance, and compile data on efficiency and light distribution.
Calibrate test benches and equipment using certified devices. Maintain calibration records and ensure timely recalibration.
Maintain a library of SANS specifications, ensuring access to the latest editions via the intranet.
Investigate failures, compile reports, and maintain records of test reports.
Perform visual inspections, report non-conformances, and request corrective actions.
Prepare inspection sheets for incoming components, including specifications and drawings, and record data in the Warehouse Management System (WMS).
Train personnel in testing procedures, verify competence, and provide technical support across departments.
Represent CLIENT on SABS committee 64C for Lighting and Optics related to luminaires.
