Kumba Iron Ore
We produce high-grade iron ore, the key component in steel widely used in construction and manufacturing worldwide. Our activities include all aspects: exploration, mining, processing and blending, shipping, marketing, and selling. In South Africa, we have mining operations in the Northern Cape province, a head office in Gauteng, and a port operation in Saldanha Bay, Western Cape.
What you will do
As a Category Lead (Mining Equipment), you will provide services as required, and your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
- Incorporate Contractor Performance Management requirements in contracts to ensure that Suppliers meet delivery expectations in a way that reduces safety-related incidents.
- Identify value creation opportunities that will deliver Anglo American’s safety and social performance requirements for contracting with responsible suppliers.
- Responsible for developing relevant category strategies, supporting input to business cases, plans to ensure supply security, advancing supplier partnering that drives innovation and value, compiling and executing sourcing events, supporting negotiations, and establishing and executing contracts.
- Embrace an agile Supply Chain by being adaptive and flexible to accommodate and focus on emerging and changing business priorities.
- Project management of key initiatives.
- Commercial Value Delivery and Supplier Partnering
- Support the development of the broader category portfolio strategy, value creation plans and business cases by providing relevant data, analysis, opportunity assessments and market intelligence.
- Understand regional strategic priorities and develop relevant Category Management strategies to support business needs and improved value delivery, focusing on cost reduction, working capital and TCO initiatives.
- Implement value creation and supplier engagement strategies that align with the global Supply Chain strategy, critical tasks, performance targets and Business Unit priorities.
- Develop and manage relationships with strategic suppliers, to drive step change in value and deliver innovative solutions that position Anglo American as a partner of choice.
- Participate in negotiations with finalising GFAs (General Framework Agreements) and related Contract Amendments.
- Optimise value through innovation, risk mitigation and growth throughout the relationship life cycle.
- Planning
- Plan, schedule, resource, and execute activities relating to relevant contracts in the category portfolio.
- Identify, enable and track value and inclusive procurement opportunities, commercial initiatives and specific resource requirements.
- Track and monitor progress against category management targets.
- Provide input into the relevant budget and resource requirements.
- Sourcing and Contracts Management
- Accountable for the contract throughout its life cycle and ensure that contract administration and performance management activities are carried out promptly and with quality.
- Ensure the effective and efficient execution of contract management activities for the assigned portfolio (including uploading completed contracts onto the system to facilitate transactions).
- Manage the implementation of bespoke agreements that specify innovation, joint development, technical, commercial, relationship, and performance expectations.
- Support the Supply Chain Management function with on-site implementation of end-to-end commercial activities and resolving escalated issues.
- Implement value opportunities and assist with resolving risks and identifying risk mitigation strategies for the portfolio.
- Inclusive Procurement
- Understand community-specific needs and identify value creation opportunities to address these.
- Drive a culture of community development and inclusive procurement with stakeholders aligned to the global and regional Inclusive Procurement strategies.
- Responsible for providing input to and delivering against inclusive procurement and commercial plans to ensure targets are met against scheduled milestones.
- Implement an Inclusive Procurement programme that will increase host community commercial participation and support the development of thriving communities.
- Embed clear Inclusive Procurement expectations, targets and initiatives in commercial agreements.
- Support the global Inclusive Procurement team to identify supplier development needs and opportunities and support the development of solutions.
- Sustainability and Social
- Encourage and maintain a culture of Sustainable Value through ESG, TCO initiatives, innovation, working capital and cost reduction.
- Implement sustainable value creation strategies, initiatives and associated business cases that advance Anglo American's technical, community, sustainability, and financial ambitions.
- Physical Supply Chain
- Build relationships with materials management and warehousing teams to ensure alignment on future demand requirements, working capital optimisation opportunities, and resolving supplier non-performance.
- Support Materials Planning in Anglo American through alignment with the Physical Supply Chain.
- Supply Chain Excellence
- Responsible for the seamless and quality handover of relevant contracts to on-site Supply Chain teams that will support the site-based implementation and day-to-day performance management.
- Adopt new ways of working and systems usage within own team, with suppliers and key stakeholders.
- Monitor supplier performance, based on contractual KPIs, and ensure that it is tracked and updated by the relevant Supply Chain Manager.
- Monitor category/contract/supplier performance and intervene/escalate proactively where required.
- Investigate digitisation opportunities with suppliers to develop compelling business cases and collaborate with stakeholders and the SC Centre of Excellence for potential implementation.
- Support the Supply Chain Manager and Company Representative functions in implementing and operationalising active contracts and continued contractor management initiatives.
- Embrace a Supply Chain team culture of diversity and inclusiveness.
- Support cross-functional team interactions with internal stakeholders to execute category management activities.
- Governance and Compliance
- Ensure compliance with internal Anglo American and Supply Chain Governance requirements for all team members and all Category Management activities.
- Ensure compliance with applicable legislative requirements of all Category Management activities
- Regular, timely and accurate reporting of all portfolio activities.
This position is in Kumba Iron Ore in Supply Chain (NC) at a Band 6 (D4/D5) level and reports to the Category Manager Directs.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain/Logistics Management/Procurement or a relevant discipline on NQF7.
- A postgraduate qualification in Supply Chain/Logistics Management/Procurement or a relevant discipline on NQF8.
- Certification:
- SA Drivers Licence: Code B (Light Vehicle)
Technical Knowledge
- 6 to 8 years of relevant experience with sound technical knowledge across the Supply Chain value chain.
- Knowledge on integrating Commercial, PSC, Supplier Management & Purchasing sub-disciplines.
- Safety & Sustainability as it relates to Supply Chain & Inclusive Procurement.
- Sound knowledge of commercial, negotiation and deal-making, business case development, and investment appraisal.
- Category Management, sourcing & contracting with Total Cost Ownership approach.
- Supplier Relationship Management.
- Business Planning, Business Case development.
- Working knowledge of regional and local Inclusive Procurement requirements.
