Job summary

A financial services firm is seeking a Bookkeeper / Assistant Accountant to manage day-to-day bookkeeping tasks. The ideal candidate will have 4-6 years of experience, strong MS Excel skills, and knowledge of South African tax compliance. Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Handling day-to-day bookkeeping including debtors, creditors and invoicing.
  • Reconciling bank accounts, petty cash and credit cards.
  • Preparing and submitting VAT, PAYE, UIF and other statutory returns.

About the job Bookkeeper / Assistant Accountant

Requirements:

  • 4 -6 years bookkeeping experience, with solid trial balance exposure
  • A relevant finance or bookkeeping qualification (Diploma/NQF level)
  • Good knowledge of VAT, PAYE and South African tax compliance
  • Strong MS Excel skills and experience using accounting packages (Sage/Pastel/Xero/QuickBooks)
  • Someone accurate, organised, and able to meet deadlines
  • Supplier engagement
  • Experience working with stock or inventory
  • Exposure to foreign currency transactions
  • Worked on more than one accounting system at least 4 years

Role:

  • Handling day-to-day bookkeeping (debtors, creditors, invoicing, bank postings)
  • Reconciling bank accounts, petty cash, and credit cards
  • Preparing and submitting VAT, PAYE, UIF and other statutory returns
  • Processing payroll and making sure everything is SARS compliant
  • Assisting with management accounts and supporting month-end processes
  • Maintaining the fixed asset register and processing journals
  • Liaising with suppliers and handling queries
  • Helping the finance team with audits and year-end requirement
