Overview

PURPOSE OF THE JOB: To safely load and unload men, materials and equipment into and from shaft conveyances and to give necessary signals.

Minimum Qualifications and Requirements

• Grade 12 or NQF 4 equivalent.
• Banksman/Onsetter certificate.
• 1-Year working experience as a Cage Helper.

Competencies

• Demonstrate knowledge pertaining to basic health and safety principles in the workplace.
• Demonstrate an understanding of the functions and the operation of signalling arrangements and safety devices in a shaft.
• Demonstrate an understanding of shaft signals.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Transport explosives and accessories by means of rolling stock.
• Gives and receives signals to/from hoist drivers for starting and stopping conveyances.
• Coordinates schedules for the transport of minerals, materials and equipment.
• Loads and removes rolling stock into and from shaft conveyances.
• Loads and unloads persons into and from shaft conveyances.
• Maintains housekeeping standards in the work area.
• Implements initiatives aimed at eliminating waste, improving productivity and reducing operating costs within scope and assists with the implementation thereof to contribute to the achievement of operational objectives.
• Supports and participates in change management initiatives to drive transformation and optimisation.
• Builds, support and maintains healthy diverse internal and external relations and implements remedial actions where required.
• Adheres to safety regulations and mine standards, procedures and practices and reports non-compliance.
• Performs regular inspections in area of work and report hazards to ensure environment is safety and hazard free and recommends remedial action where necessary.
