Assistant Finance Manager

Role Summary and Purpose
The Assistant Finance Manager will be at the heart of driving financial excellence, working side by side with the Financial Manager to oversee the full finance function. This role offers the perfect balance of hands-on responsibility and strategic exposure, giving you the platform to showcase your expertise while shaping key business decisions. Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist with the preparation and analysis of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial results
  • Manage reconciliations of accounts, bank statements, and supplier invoices to ensure accuracy and compliance
  • Support the budgeting and forecasting processes, tracking variances and highlighting risks or opportunities
  • Oversee expense management and implement cost-control initiatives in line with business objectives
  • Provide input into payroll processing and statutory submissions (VAT, PAYE, and other returns)
  • Coordinate with auditors and prepare year-end audit files
  • Maintain effective financial systems, processes, and controls to safeguard company assets
  • Ensure timely processing of payments and manage transactional banking requirements
  • Provide financial insights and reporting to management for decision-making purposes
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and ensure adherence to company financial policies
Minimum Qualifications
  • Grade 12 / Matric (essential)
  • Bachelors degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance, or related field (preferred)
Skills and Competencies
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and strong working knowledge of accounting systems (Sage, Pastel, or Xero)
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge with proven ability to interpret financial data
  • Excellent attention to detail with strong organisational and time management abilities
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure, prioritising multiple deadlines
  • Strong communication skills and ability to liaise confidently with stakeholders at all levels
Experience Required
  • Minimum of 4-6 years progressive finance or accounting experience, preferably within a head office or corporate environment
  • Experience in reporting, compliance, and financial operations
