Job description
Industrial Operations Manager

The Industrial Operations Manager is responsible for all aspects of Production (in-house and third party contractors), Quality Assurance, Supply Chain Management, and ancillary activities to ensure compliance, high quality products are available to the market timeously and at the best cost, to meet forecasted demand.

The incumbent is also responsible for site maintenance, safety and security, and will be based in Centurion, Pretoria.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Area of responsibility 1: Management of People
    • Propose resource requirements and appropriate organisational structure to meet the strategic missions, critical success factors and business outcomes for the department
    • Manage and support the recruitment of staff with the right experience, competencies and fit with the company culture
    • Provide ongoing feedback and coaching to direct reports in order to ensure they meet the expectations of performance, and to develop and support them in their role
    • Ensure the implementation of: proper performance definition (job description and objectives), evaluation (regular feedback, annual performance review and other appropriate performance management measures), reward and recognition, training and development processes (Individual development plans as appropriate)
    • Ensure the communication and understanding of the company's vision, values, culture and strategy, and foster a positive, motivating working environment for all employees
    • Assist in the implementation of programmes to improve employee and team performance, satisfaction and retention
    • Contribute to succession planning
    • Encourage and facilitate interdepartmental teamwork
    • Ensure the department proactively participates in all environmental, health and safety initiatives and complies with required policies and standards
  • Area of responsibility 2: Execution of the Strategic Industrial Operations Plan
    • Develop and implement an industrial operations strategic plan aligned to the Group strategic plan
    • Ensure that the strategic plan is aligned to global and regional priorities
    • Ensure that an appropriate organisational structure is in place to meet output requirements
    • Assist in the preparation of Opex and Industrial cost budgets
    • Sourcing of raw materials contributing to improving COGS
    • Ensure the development of people to maximise their potential
    • Ensure that Industrial Operations activities are conducted within agreed budget
  • Area of responsibility 3: Supply Chain Management
    • Maintain oversight and give guidance to Supply Chain Manager to ensure that Sourcing and Purchasing activities are compliant with relevant legislation and deliver business efficiencies
    • Ensure that distribution and stock management is done within corporate guidelines and efficiently
    • Maintain inventory at appropriate levels and in good condition
    • Ensure that our customer service to the market is not compromised
  • Area of responsibility 4: Quality Compliance
    • Maintain oversight and give guidance to Quality Assurance Manager to ensure that quality management systems are in place and maintained to ensure compliance with Marketing Authorisations and all legislation pertaining to cGMP
    • Ensure compliance with Pharmaceutical legislation / best practices
    • Ensure GMP status with SAHPRA is maintained
    • Support marketing and sales initiatives, both local and for export markets, by ensuring local facility remains compliant with cGMP
  • Area of responsibility 5: Manufacturing Facility
    • Maintain oversight and give guidance to Production Manager to ensure plant capacity is maximised within inventory constraints
    • Ensure productivity metrics contribute to lower cost of goods
    • Ensure positive variances are maintained on Industrial Standard Costs
    • Ensure correct costing is allocated to production activities
    • Production activities occur within the budgeted targets
    • Manage yield variance on critical Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients and Finished goods to reduce obsolescence
    • Ensure production of high quality products
  • Area of responsibility 6: Facility Management
    • Be responsible for site security and safety in line with OHSA legislative requirements as per 16 appointment
    • Provide input to Head Office for the compilation of the group sustainable development report
    • Maintain oversight and give guidance to Industrial Operations Coordinator and Maintenance Handyman to ensure a preventative maintenance plan for infrastructure is developed and actioned
    • Ensure that there is preventative maintenance plan for all on site equipment to prevent disruption to production activities
    • Ensure that maintenance activities are done within budget and with minimal impact of work output
Desired Experience & Qualifications
  • Requirements (Diploma and experience): Educational level or equivalent experience: Grade 12 (Matric)
  • A Bachelor of Pharmacy degree and/or Extensive experience in Industrial Operations (Production, Quality Assurance, Quality Control, Supply Chain) would be preferable.
  • Total number of years experience required to fulfill the role: 7 years experience in industrial operations
