POSITION TITLE: Shari’a Reviewer & Auditor
GENERAL SUMMARY

The main purpose of the Shari’a Reviewer & Auditor ("SRA") role is to manage, execute, and assist with all aspects of Shari’a review and audit tasks under Shariyah Review Bureau’s ("SRB") mandate. The SRA will ensure consistent delivery of high-quality Shari’a compliance reviews, product evaluations, audits, and scholarly consultations for SRB’s clients. The SRA role requires interfacing with clients, Shari’a scholars, auditors, and internal teams to maintain SRB’s standards in compliance management. Additionally, the position involves analyzing and providing Shari’a guidance on financial products, services, and corporate transactions to ensure adherence to Islamic principles.

GENERAL PURPOSE
  • Facilitate operational and advisory tasks in Shari’a review and audit projects.
  • Assist in designing, implementing, and managing compliance programs that align with Shari’a standards.
  • Provide consultation and expert advice to SRB’s clients on Shari’a-related matters.
  • Compile comprehensive reports and assessments for Shari’a audits and reviews.
  • Act as a communication channel between clients, scholars, and SRB’s management for Shari’a compliance and audit services.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP

The SRA will report to the Shari’a Review & Audit Manager and may also interact directly with the CEO and other senior management for guidance and support on critical projects.

DIMENSIONS AND LIMITS OF AUTHORITY
  • Responsible for the execution and documentation of Shari’a reviews and audits within the assigned scope and timeline.
  • Provide input and feedback on Shari’a compliance issues to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with Shari’a scholars and advisors to ensure that decisions align with Islamic jurisprudence.
  • Represent SRB in client meetings or audits, as needed.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Shari’a Reviews and Audits:
    • Perform Shari’a reviews of client products, processes, and services.
    • Conduct Shari’a audits to ensure compliance with approved guidelines and standards.
    • Analyze and assess Shari’a compliance risks in client operations.
  • Client Support:
    • Provide timely and accurate responses to client queries on Shari’a compliance.
    • Maintain proactive communication with clients regarding the status of reviews, audits, and product approvals.
  • Reporting and Documentation:
    • Prepare detailed Shari’a compliance reports, audit findings, and recommendations.
    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of reviews, audits, and client interactions.
  • Collaboration with Scholars:
    • Liaise with Shari’a scholars and advisors to ensure alignment with Islamic principles.
    • Assist in organizing scholarly meetings, maintaining minutes, and documenting outcomes.
  • Training and Development:
    • Participate in training programs to enhance expertise in Shari’a compliance and audit methodologies.
    • Contribute to training programs for clients and internal teams to promote awareness of Shari’a standards.
  • Policy and Program Development:
    • Assist in developing and refining Shari’a review and audit policies.
    • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to optimize compliance services.
  • Other Duties:
    • Address and resolve client concerns regarding Shari’a compliance issues.
    • Support the Shari’a Review & Audit Manager in special projects and assignments.
    • Perform additional tasks as directed by SRB’s management.
REQUIREMENTS
KEY SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
  • Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in Islamic Finance, Shari’a Studies, or a related discipline; a Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Professional Experience: 3-5 years of experience in Shari’a compliance, audit, or related fields.
  • Strong understanding of Islamic jurisprudence and its application in financial products and services.
  • Proficiency in compliance and audit methodologies.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and Arabic.
  • Ability to articulate complex Shari’a principles to diverse audiences.
