Overview
The Mechanical Completion Engineer for the Zuluf Water Treatment Project is responsible for overseeing and managing all mechanical completion activities to ensure that systems, subsystems, and equipment are installed, tested, and completed in accordance with project specifications, quality standards, and safety requirements. The role ensures that mechanical completion milestones are achieved on time and serves as the focal point for coordination between construction, commissioning, quality, and operations teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Mechanical Completion Management
- Plan, organize, and execute all mechanical completion activities in alignment with the project schedule and quality requirements.
- Define system and subsystem boundaries, ensuring readiness for pre-commissioning and commissioning phases.
- Monitor progress of mechanical completion dossiers (MCDs) and ensure timely completion and handover to commissioning.
- Verify that punch lists are prepared, categorized, tracked, and closed in line with project requirements.
- Documentation and Handover
- Ensure proper preparation, review, and approval of mechanical completion dossiers (MCDs).
- Maintain accurate documentation of all mechanical completion activities, including test records, inspection reports, and punch lists.
- Facilitate the handover process of completed systems from construction to commissioning in accordance with project procedures.
- Quality Assurance and Compliance
- Ensure that mechanical completion works are carried out in compliance with project specifications, drawings, standards, and applicable codes.
- Collaborate with QA/QC teams to conduct inspections, tests, and verification activities.
- Support audits and ensure that all quality records are up to date and available for review.
- Coordination and Communication
- Work closely with construction, commissioning, operations, and HSE teams to align activities and resolve interface issues.
- Act as the primary point of contact for mechanical completion status reporting and progress updates.
- Liaise with contractors and vendors to ensure timely execution of mechanical completion activities.
- Progress Monitoring and Reporting
- Track and report weekly and monthly mechanical completion progress against the project schedule.
- Identify delays, bottlenecks, or risks and propose mitigation measures to ensure timely completion.
- Support project management in preparing completion status presentations and reports for the client.
- Punch List and Issue Resolution
- Lead and coordinate punch list activities, ensuring proper categorization (A/B/C) and closure.
- Work with construction and commissioning teams to resolve outstanding issues that impact system readiness.
- Safety and Compliance
- Ensure all mechanical completion activities are carried out in accordance with HSE requirements and company safety policies.
- Actively participate in toolbox talks, safety walks, and risk assessments related to completion activities.
- Continuous Improvement
- Recommend improvements in mechanical completion processes and tools to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
- Stay updated with industry practices and digital tools for system completion and turnover management.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- Experience: 5–7 years of experience in mechanical completion, pre-commissioning, or commissioning activities in large-scale industrial projects. Experience in water treatment, desalination, oil & gas, or utility projects is highly desirable. Proven track record in managing system/subsystem completions and dossier handover.
- Skills: Strong knowledge of system completion procedures, punch list management, and turnover processes. Familiarity with project completion software/tools. Excellent organizational and reporting skills. Strong communication and coordination abilities across multiple stakeholders. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
