Job Summary
The QHSE Supervisor is the key leader to drive the Zero incident and Zero waste culture within the operations in the stations, including assurance that operational QHSE delivery is in accordance with the industry’s and Swissport’s global quality, safety & environment management systems and standards.
Job Responsibilities
- Lead by example and continuously coordinate QHSE improvement and compliance within the station by fostering a culture of safety, quality, and environmental responsibility.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for airline representatives, civilian aviation authorities, and local government officials regarding all Quality, Health, Safety, and Environmental (QHSE) related matters at station level.
- Serve as the primary liaison between station management and corporate QHSE teams, providing feedback, updates, and recommendations.
- Champion the cultural change to a Zero Incident and Zero Waste mindset among all employees, inspiring commitment and engagement at every level of the organization.
- Report directly to the station General Managers and indirectly to, Country QHSE Manager providing full support, and assistance on all QHSE related matters.
- Align with the global QHSE strategy and support the local management in developing the Station QHSE strategic roadmap, driving implementation of action plans and objectives.
- Ensure comprehensive and efficient implementation of Swissport’s QHSE management system within the station and actively support the development and improvement of the Swissport Quality Health & Safety Management System as part of the Swissport Formula.
- Conduct regular audits and inspections to assess compliance with Swissport’s QHSE policies and procedures, identifying areas for improvement and implementing corrective actions as necessary.
- Conduct daily, weekly, and monthly safety briefings to operational staff, highlighting targets and Key Performance Indicator (KPI) objectives.
- Plan, prepare, and conduct internal safety audits in Swissport operational organizations, ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
- Initiate and monitor corrective actions based on audit findings and occurrence investigations, collaborating with relevant stakeholders to drive continuous improvement.
- Close collaboration with operational line managers in the preparation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Local Operating Procedures (LOPs).
- Produce documentation, including reports, checklists, and incident records, in accordance with QHSE requirements.
- Assist the Country QHSE Manager and Station General Manager in monitoring compliances and develop action plans to address any gaps or deficiencies identified.
- Collaborate with station management and department heads to develop and implement QHSE training programs and initiatives tailored to the specific needs of each business unit.
- Develop and deliver training programs for employees to promote a culture of safety awareness and compliance.
- Collaborate with various departments to develop and implement safety improvement initiatives.
- Monitor and analyze safety performance metrics to identify trends and areas for improvement.
- Serve as a liaison with regulatory agencies and participate in audits and inspections as required.
- Participate in emergency response planning and conduct drills to ensure preparedness.
- Monitor and analyze QHSE performance metrics, preparing reports and presentations for management review and continuous improvement efforts.
- Stay current with regulatory requirements and industry best practices related to Quality, Health, Safety, and Environment, ensuring that station operations remain in compliance.
- Actively participate in incident investigations, root cause analyses, and risk assessments, contributing to the development of preventive measures and safety improvement strategies.
- Collaborate with external stakeholders, including regulatory agencies, industry associations, and customers, to promote QHSE excellence and uphold Swissport’s reputation as a leader in aviation services.
- Act as a resource for employees regarding safety policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Perform any other tasks as assigned by management to support the overall Operational QHSE objectives of the organization.
Qualifications and Competencies
- University technical degree/ professional qualifications or equivalent in related field, required.
- Bachelor's degree in Aviation Management (preferred), Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or related field.
- Certification in QHSE management systems (e.g., ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001) preferred.
- Previous experience in aviation QHSE management or related roles, with a solid understanding of regulatory requirements and industry standards.
- Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
- Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret data, identify trends, and develop actionable insights to drive continuous improvement.
- Proven track record of project management, including planning, execution, and evaluation of initiatives to achieve strategic objectives.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software applications.
- Industry Certification: such as certified Safety Professional, Certified Industrial Hygienist; NEBOSH diploma or equivalent in safety management. (preferable)
- 3 years of experience in Aviation or 1 year experience in H&S, in the industry.
- Successful experience in implementing ISO/OHSAS/ISAGO. Certified auditor, desirable.
- Knowledge of region / country specific laws and industry regulations related to safety, health and environment.
- Proven track record in the implementation of QHSE systems and behavioural based safety programs.
- Operational and general compliance orientation.
- Experience in risk assessments, accident/incident investigation and root cause analysis.
- Fluent command of English, written and spoken, as the corporate language.
