What You Will Do (Responsibilities)
  • Manage one of the teams focused on delivering customer-facing value within our Employee Platforms domain.
  • Develop engineering practices with your team to foster a culture of engineering excellence and high-quality software delivery.
  • Thrive in an agile environment with 2-week sprint cycles; act as an agile coach and continuously manage your team\'s backlog.
  • Own overall health and engineering quality of your product and help scale and improve these systems.
  • Break down complex projects, services, and processes; communicate with other engineering teams and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Communicate confidently about project timelines, system architectures, and engineering practices.
  • Raise risks early and propose directional solutions to mitigate them.
  • Guide your team in creating properly leveled estimates to set realistic delivery expectations with stakeholders and leadership.
  • Implement routines and frameworks for efficient communication and decision making.
  • Keep your team informed of broader initiatives and help integrate them as needed.
  • Negotiate delivery tradeoffs with Product partners to manage tech debt and maintenance work.
  • Mentor and grow each engineer on your team to help them reach the next career level.
  • Collaborate with Talent Acquisition in hiring and conduct interviews with interview loops appropriate for the role level.
  • Foster psychological safety and hold regular 1:1s to ensure team health; provide regular performance feedback.
  • Encourage technical decision making and make final decisions when necessary.
  • Lead the team during major incidents, perform root cause analysis, identify improvements, and create incident post-mortems where applicable.
  • Create growth opportunities, recognize achievements, and reward high performance.
  • Maintain accountability for delivering high-quality, secure, reusable, and scalable software.
  • Build and maintain a healthy relationship with product counterparts in the domain.
What You Bring (Qualifications)
  • Bachelor\'s degree in engineering or similar field with 5+ years of managerial experience.
  • A track record of strategy implementation with proven outcomes.
  • Collaborative project planning skills that consider risk/reward, assumptions, and confidence levels.
  • Excellent written and verbal technical communication.
  • A data-driven approach with a history of both direct and indirect influence.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud technologies (preferably AWS).
  • Understanding of architectural patterns such as API-first, SOA, and microservices; knowledge of their trade-offs.
  • Experience with observability/monitoring tools (e.g., DataDog).
  • Familiarity with work management tools (e.g., Atlassian Jira).
  • Experience designing and developing scalable API-based platforms.
  • Passion for the role and accountability for the team\'s deliverables.
  • Ability to work effectively in an agile, team-based environment.
  • Practical and creative problem-solving skills.
