For our client, one of the leading project developers for renewable energies we are looking for Junior Legal Counsel based in Rome.

The Position

The Junior Legal Counsel will assist the Senior Legal Counsel in providing legal support on contractual, regulatory, compliance, and corporate matters within the fast-growing renewable energy sector.

The role sits within the legal department and reports directly to the Senior Legal Counsel, working closely with project development teams and external stakeholders. The position contributes to ensuring that the company’s activities comply with Italian and EU legal frameworks applicable to renewable energy projects, including wind, (agri-)PV, and battery energy storage systems.

Key Responsibilities in this role include:
  • Carry out legal research in civil, commercial, and real estate law, with a focus on Italian and EU legislation governing renewable energy projects in Italy.
  • Analyze regulations related to environmental compliance, permitting procedures, grid connection, and energy market rules.
  • Support legal and risk assessments during project development, including land agreements, environmental permits (e.g. VIA, AIA), AU authorizations, and construction permits.
  • Assist in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating real estate and commercial contracts, such as surface rights and usufruct agreements, land leases, purchase agreements, service contracts, NDAs, EPC, O&M, PPA, and procurement agreements.
  • Support due diligence activities in connection with the acquisition or financing of renewable energy assets.
  • Assist with contract management, including tracking deadlines and renewals.
  • Cooperate with internal departments and external advisors on legal aspects of ongoing projects.
  • Support permitting processes and liaise with local authorities, regulatory bodies, and notaries.
  • Assist in handling pre-litigation matters and contractual disputes.
  • Support corporate governance activities, including board resolutions, compliance registers, and statutory filings.
  • Maintain well‑organized legal documentation and contribute to improving internal procedures.
Requirements
  • Master’s degree in Law (Laurea Magistrale in Giurisprudenza) from an accredited Italian university.
  • Qualified lawyer (Avvocato) or completion of legal traineeship (pratica forense).
  • Strong academic background in civil, commercial, administrative, environmental, and energy law.
  • 2–3 years of relevant experience in a law firm or in‑house legal department, preferably within the renewable energy sector.
  • Good knowledge of Italian regulatory frameworks for renewable energy and environmental permitting (VIA, PAS, AU).
  • Excellent legal drafting, analytical, and research skills.
  • High attention to detail and strong problem‑solving abilities.
  • Excellent written and spoken Italian and English (C1 level).
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic project environment.
  • Team‑oriented, proactive, and solution‑driven mindset.
  • Comfortable working cross‑functionally and with external stakeholders.
  • Willingness to travel for site visits or meetings with authorities.
  • High ethical standards and strict respect for confidentiality.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with tools such as QGIS, map viewers.
