Engineering Coordinator - Offshore Jacket Fabrication
Position Title: Jacket Engineering Coordinator
Location: KL Office Milan (Italy)
Reporting to: Engineering Manager
Hill International provides program, project, and construction management services for clients in a range of sectors undertaking major construction projects across the world, including cost engineering, quality assurance, scheduling, risk management, and claims avoidance.
Responsibilities
- Design Coordination:
- Coordinate the development and review of engineering deliverables for jacket structures including general arrangement drawings, loadout & transportation analyses, pile design and sleeve details, lifting & installation procedures, finite element analyses and structural calculations.
- Ensure designs comply with international codes (API RP 2A, ISO 19901), company specifications, and project requirements.
- Lead interdisciplinary coordination between structural, geotechnical, naval, and installation teams.
- Interface & Vendor Management:
- Coordinate between jacket design team, topside team, marine operations and geotechnical specialists.
- Liaise with fabrication contractors and verify alignment of shop drawings and fabrication methods with design intent.
- Ensure incorporation of interface loads from topside, risers, conductors, and appurtenances such as boat landing, J‑tubes, and anodes.
- Technical Reviews & Approvals:
- Lead or participate in model reviews, design reviews, HAZID and constructability reviews.
- Review and approve deliverables such as fabrication drawings, welding procedures and material specifications.
- Track technical queries, deviations and manage engineering change requests.
- Provide engineering support to jacket fabrication at the yard and review shop drawings, resolve field issues, and review installation analyses for lifting, upending, launching and piling operations.
- Progress & Quality Monitoring:
- Monitor progress of jacket design and fabrication against project milestones.
- Ensure quality assurance and quality control compliance for structural components.
- Maintain technical documentation and reporting to project management.
Skills & Competencies
- Proficient in structural engineering software (SACS, STAAD.Pro, SESAM, ANSYS).
- Strong knowledge of offshore installation methods and jacket construction practices.
- Familiar with standards and specifications (API, ISO, DNV, ABS).
- Good understanding of fabrication yard processes, welding, NDT and material control.
- Strong project coordination, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science Degree (BSc) in Structural Engineering from an accredited university.
- Work experience of eight (8) years in the relevant discipline after earning the BSc.
- Minimum of five (5) years of offshore experience in total, with at least the last 3–5 years spent on offshore projects.
- Excellent spoken and written English, including proven ability to write specifications and reports.
