Critical Operations Technician (Trainee) – STACK Academy, 2025 Intake

Location: STACK Data Center Campus, Milan • Duration: 18 months | Full-time, paid

STACK Academy was launched to provide non-traditional pathways to technical careers in the data center industry. The program is fully paid, includes English language training and expert mentorship, and welcomes new learners across Europe in 2025. The goal is to develop in-demand skills and prepare participants to join the next wave of critical infrastructure experts.

Role overview

As a Critical Operations Technician (COT), you’ll be part of the on-site team that keeps STACK’s data centers running 24/7/365, supporting power, cooling, emergency systems and daily safety checks. You will participate in the inspection, operation and maintenance of equipment, with a focus on learning and development in a demanding but rewarding team environment.

Responsibilities during the 18-month program
  • Support daily operations and monitor, inspect, and maintain key infrastructure, including electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Participate in emergency drills, learn alarm response procedures, and uphold safety and uptime standards.
  • Perform checks and routine maintenance; join equipment rounds and conduct visual inspections to ensure smooth operation.
  • Assist in troubleshooting faults, read technical diagrams, and work with Building Management Systems (BMS) and Electrical Power Management Systems (EPMS).
  • Learn how power, cooling, fire safety, and gas suppression systems operate and remain operational.
  • Escort clients or vendors when needed and represent STACK’s professional and inclusive culture.
  • Participate in structured training, team handovers, documentation management, and internal projects to build towards leadership in operations.
Who we’re looking for
  • Stay calm under pressure and manage multiple priorities, even when timelines shift.
  • Enjoy teamwork and supporting colleagues to grow and succeed.
  • Communicate clearly and confidently with peers, mentors and leadership.
  • Be open to feedback and eager to learn and improve.
  • Ability to perform a range of complex tasks with some autonomy; work well solo or in a team.
  • Attention to detail with a broad perspective; strong interpersonal skills for collaboration with colleagues, vendors and clients.
  • IT/computer skills (MS Office, etc.) with ability to learn various operating software tools and systems.
  • Written and verbal skills in Italian; service-oriented mindset focused on client satisfaction.
The practicalities

You’ll be based at a STACK data center campus in Milan. Our teams operate 24/7, year-round, so you’ll be part of a shift schedule. You may occasionally rotate across other sites to learn best practices and support as needed. This is a long-term career path—learners can graduate into COT Level 1 roles and progress to senior technicians or team leads within a few years.

What you’ll get in return
  • Future-friendly benefits including a pension plan, accident and health insurance, and access to an employee benefits platform with exclusive discounts.
  • Full training for your role, with English language training to thrive in an international environment.
  • Invitations to internal events, welcome pack of STACK SWAG, and lunch tickets to fuel your day.
  • Support for commuting: public transport subscription (€1,110/year) or free on-site parking where available (plus EV charging at select sites).

Availability of parking and charging stations varies by location and will be confirmed by our HR team.
