Team Leader – Control Room

Position Overview

The Control Room Team Leader will play a pivotal role in supporting the Operations Supervisor by driving optimal operational performance, identifying and responding to alarms and critical events, and ensuring compliance with all regulatory and contractual obligations across the fleet. This role involves coordinating day-to-day operations for a diverse portfolio of generating facilities, engaging with multiple balancing authorities, transmission providers, and scheduling entities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor and operate multiple generating facilities using various control platforms.
  • Evaluate complex operational situations against regulatory and contractual obligations.
  • Operate and optimize multiple power plant control systems, predicting grid responses and implementing voltage schedules according to contracts and agreements.
  • Initiate and document appropriate alarm responses; coordinate immediate response for high-risk issues and notify all relevant stakeholders.
  • Perform failure analysis to identify issues and support maintenance planning.
  • Maximize fleet performance and value by collaborating with maintenance teams and understanding contractual dispatch obligations.
  • Maintain accurate operator logs tracking capacity, trouble conditions, control actions, and interactions with external entities.
  • Lead a team of Control Room Operators, providing guidance for escalation and operational decision-making.
  • Manage team scheduling, leave requests, and overall roster planning.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for remote operations leadership.
Experience Required
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in power plant operations.
  • Strong technical knowledge of plant and system processes, including electrical and SCADA systems.
  • Proven ability to analyze equipment performance and identify operational issues.
Skills & Qualifications

  • Capacity to work in high-pressure environments where decisions impact personnel safety and equipment reliability.

  • Understanding of electronic power system protection equipment.
  • Experience with VBA and/or SQL is an advantage.
Education
  • Degree in power systems, electrical engineering, or a related field, or formal operations apprenticeship training. Equivalent relevant experience may also be considered.
