Who are we?
The Develop Directorate are a diverse ‘whole force workforce’, of approximately 200 people who have the responsibility for delivering the future military capability, by crafting first-class project control and management functions across a diverse portfolio which strives to support our operational commitments. We get the opportunity to influence the investment choices around what the military capability does and does not require, at what level of urgency they are needed and to maintain operational effectiveness today and to deliver advantage in the future.
There Are Three Key Elements In Achieving Our Ambition:
- Reset the Royal Navy, preparing a solid foundation for success within the 2040 time frame, by making the Navy capable of adapting at pace and scale. The Future Force Mix, Maritime Operating Concept and National Shipbuilding Pipeline will collectively offer a rationalised view of the capability visions for 2040, to define how the maritime force will fight 5 to 15 years ahead.
- Develop and sponsor military capability, translating strategy and policy into capability projects in the Royal Navy portfolio by launching the right change projects/programmes to transition to the future.
- Drive innovation and experimentation to enable the Navy to understand, evaluate and accelerate the exploitation of new and potentially disruptive technologies and practises in order to stay ahead of the threat.
Why do we need you?
We need someone who can,
- Support, facilitate and co-ordinate delivery by providing key military advice to Director Develop, Chief of Staff, and our wider senior management team by being involved in a range of portfolio areas to enable timely delivery of the Directorates key requirements.
- Utilise all Navy Command management tools, to support the Directorate to deliver at pace, on time and to budget across all business areas to inform priorities.
- Hold strong organisational skills and the ability to manage a varied portfolio, with the ability to manage a range of events, handling logistical details, coordinating effectively across a range of differing needs.
- Apply strengths is quality of written and verbal communication, with experience of developing and implementing impactful comms and engagement strategies, by being responsive, helpful, and clear in all correspondence and able to adapt approach and Directorate requirements when needed.
- Ability to manage a varied and uneven workload effectively, involving ongoing business-as-usual activity.
The successful candidate will be working in a fast paced, agile environment and will need to have a flexible approach to enable rapid delivery to respond to priorities as they emerge. This role offers opportunities for the right person to make a real difference to the front line of the RN.
The Develop Directorate is largeandcomplex,covering a multitude of Capability Management activities, including Future Force Design, Capability Planning, Capability Sponsorship, Programme Delivery. Due to the size and span of the Directorate the Business Team supports all corporate functional business activities.
The Develop Business Support Officer role ensures that all support services across the Develop Directorate are optimised in line with business need and in support of Develop Strategic Objectives and business outputs.
Responsibilities
Business Support:
- Support the Business Support Services Lead, Delivery Manager and COS in all tasks required to provide a professional service across the Develop Directorate, including ADHOC activities but also the following:
- Information Technology requirements.
Security.
- Facilities Management activities.
- Internal Health & Safety activities.
- Internal Events Management eg: Staff Away Days.
- Act as a Directorate Security Custodian.
Travel:
- Act as a Directorate TAO including non-Travel Cell bookings.
- Support month end Travel actuals tracking.
- Lead event travel bookings and arrangements (Ad hoc).
- Finance & Commercial:
- ePC (Electronic Procurement Card) Checking Officer or EPC card holder, undertaking the necessary checks against all usage for the Directorate.
- Undertake CP&F activities in support of the Directorate.
- Co-ordinate input into the Commercial Pipeline.
Information Management Support:
Accountable for the information processes within the Develop Directorate. Delivering all Information Management aspects across the Directorate, including but not limited to:
- Maintain the Directorates electronic working areas, including access permissions to ensure they meet business needs and comply with information security policies on MODNET Official and Secret.
- Identifying and publishing key information on the Directorate SharePoint in support of Policy, Advice, Guidance, and key topics of interest.
- Work with teams in the Directorate to ensure their Official and Secret sites meet IM Policy, information is being captured correctly and sites are accessible.
- Coordinate the regular review of electronic records, ensuring that reviews are carried out in accordance with the instruction issued in JSP 441.
- Support the Senior Information Officer (SIO) with all information assurance activities, compliance checks and returns. on MODNET OFFICIAL and Secret.
Communications And Industry Engagement:
Act as the POC for all Communications & Engagement activities, including but not limited to:
- Regular updating of the existing Comms & Engagement Tracker and Industry Trackers.
- Management of the Industry Engagement SharePoint area and Multiuser.
- Provide support in the planning of industry events such as CNE and DSEI.
- Arranging and recording of RFI’s, FOI’s and PQ’s.
ADHOC Activities:
- Ad hoc activities in support of the Business Management Team, Delivery Manager and COS as required across all team functions.
