This is a 5 Month Fixed Term/Secondment Opportunity

Wehave a vacancy for a motivated, proactive and adaptable Lead Nurse.

The role will cover leadership in both the Medical and Frailty Same Day EmergencyCare departments, both are busy and dynamic environments, providing assessmentand management for patients presenting a wide range of medical problemsand frailty.

Werequire a senior nursing leader, responsible for clinical oversight, patientflow, team leadership, and ensuring high-quality, same-day emergency care forpatients, bridging the gap between the Emergency Department and hospitaladmission, managing resources, and developing staff within a fast-pacedenvironment. You will deliver direct patient care while coordinating the unit,working with multidisciplinary teams to assess, diagnose, treat, and dischargepatients. You will need to be dynamic and be able to drive change and implementnew pathways and processes.

Thepost holder will be managing and overseeing a team of SDEC staff comprising of,Band 5 and 5 nurses, and Band 3 health care assistants.

Main duties of the job

Clinical & Patient Care

High-Quality Care: Delivers expert nursing care and acts asa role model for professional standards.

Specialist Practice: Assesses, plans, and evaluates care,often for complex patient groups, aiming for same-day discharge.

Medication Management: Ensures safe administration ofmedications.

Discharge Planning: Facilitates timely and safe discharges,making referrals to community services.

Leadership & Education

Team Leadership: Provides clinical supervision, support,and guidance to junior staff and students.

Professional Development: Leads educational activities,promotes continuous learning, and ensures staff have necessary skills.

Service Development: Contributes to new protocols,policies, and the overall development of the SDEC service.

Operational & Service Improvement

Resource Management: Manages workload and resourceseffectively within budgetary limits.

Multidisciplinary Working: Collaborates closely withdoctors, allied health professionals, and managers.

Audit & Research: Participates in audits, implementsaction plans, and integrates research into practice.

Data & Reporting: Involved in data collection andreporting for service evaluation

Qualifications
  • 1st level registered nurse (equivalent to 1st degree) plus significant experience at Band 6 plus additional qualifications including Assessing and Mentoring qualification and additional relevant degree (or evidence of working towards a degree).
  • Evidence of ongoing dynamic continuing professional development within the speciality linked to demonstrable clinical competencies.
  • Basic life support training.
  • NVQ D32/33 Assessor Course.
  • Advanced Life Support training.
