Registered Nurse - Medical Day Case Unit

The Medical Day Case Unit (MDCU) is a unit that provides a service to prevent hospital admission and improves patient experience. Our aim is to provide optimum quality of care to patients coming in for a day case procedure or intervention.

MDCU has opportunities for both experienced and newly qualified nurses who are caring, enthusiastic and driven to join this experienced and friendly team. We are looking for dynamic, efficient individuals who can work under pressure to support the team in providing effective treatment for patients whilst developing a wide variety of skills. The successful applicants will be highly motivated and demonstrate the ability to provide the highest standard of safe, effective care to their patients. Main duties of the job

To deliver a high standard of nursing care to patients receiving medical treatment. The post holders will be responsible for patient care needs, and for the implementation and evaluation of the procedure or interventions. The post holders are required to work as part of a team committed to delivering and improving a high standard and efficient nursing care within South Warwickshire University Foundation Trust.

Job responsibilities

Key Result Areas:

Clinical
  • Take clinical responsibility for patients within your allocated area of work.
  • Continuously assess, plan, implement and evaluate treatment using appropriate programmes and methods of care.
  • Ensure a high delivery of quality care in accordance with Trust policies, procedures and guidelines.
  • Participate in activities to improve the quality, productivity and effectiveness of care in response to local and national policies and initiatives.
  • Practice in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and scope of professional practice and maintain your NMC registration.
  • In the absence of a senior colleague, and following appropriate induction and guidance, coordinate the shift and take management responsibility for admissions, transfers and discharges to the ward or department.
  • Liaise with the multi‑disciplinary team to ensure an effective flow and communications within the area, including being available for Board and Ward Rounds as required.

  • Show empathy, understanding and professionalism when communicating with patients, their carers and families.
  • Identify individual needs and utilise a range of agreed communication mediums.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with colleagues and all levels of staff.
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times, as required by legislation and Trust policy.

  • Ensure records and documentation are maintained, kept confidential and meet professional NMC guidelines, appropriate Trust standards and the Data Protection Act.
