Certain Advantage is hiring for a Mechanical Design Engineer based within commutable distance of Chesterfield.

This role is on a permanent basis and is office-based.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a specialist contractor that designs and manufactures its own equipment - from lightweight aluminium access platforms to excavator- and slope-mounted drilling rigs, for use on challenging geotechnical projects across the UK. Their purpose-built Chesterfield site houses both the design office and manufacturing workshop, giving engineers the chance to take projects from concept to finished product - and even see equipment in use out on site.

This role is for a Mechanical Design Engineer who enjoys problem-solving and turning ideas into manufacturable solutions. You will work closely with the onsite manufacturing team for the design and manufacture of specialist drilling and construction equipment.

• Lead design for slope stabilisation drilling equipment and rope access systems
• Develop new concepts into detailed 3D designs using SolidWorks
• Produce manufacturable drawings and prototype assemblies
• Work closely with operations teams and suppliers to optimise equipment for use and production
• Conduct design calculations and FEA to verify strength and safety
• Support continual improvement of existing equipment through design optimisation
• Spend time in the workshop reviewing prototypes, troubleshooting, and refining builds

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering
• Minimum 2 years’ experience in a similar design-focused role
• Knowledge of FEA and hand calculations
• Practical mindset and familiarity with a workshop / manufacturing environment
