Wood Mackenzie’s Research
Wood Mackenzie’s research groups provide integrated subscription, research and advisory services to inform and support our client’s commercial and strategic decisions in the complex and rapidly changing energy industry across all sectors of the economy.

Combining our deep knowledge of transport, battery technologies and raw material supply chains with our expertise in power, renewables, storage, and fuels modelling, and emerging technologies like hydrogen and CCUS, Wood Mackenzie can provide data and insight spanning the entire energy value chain. We cover supply chains, technology costs, policy and market issues, fundamentals-based outlooks, scenario modelling, price forecasting, asset valuation, and commodity market landscapes.

Team Profile

Wood Mackenzie’s Electric Vehicle and Battery Supply Chain (EVBSC) team is a core part of the Fundamentals sub-segment within Commodities; it works alongside other cross-commodity teams within Fundamentals including our Energy & Materials Demand team, the Macroeconomics team, and our Market Modelling group.

This role will be a senior member of the EVBSC research team, with considerable profile. This is an excellent opportunity to join a strong, global team and make a major contribution in a high-profile, dynamic sector.

In the EVBSC team we play a critical part in Wood Mackenzie’s integrated analysis. Our transport outlook, incorporating policy, OEM strategy, mobility trends and much more, is a central part of our cross-commodity approach.

We model full road transport deployment by drivetrain and the battery technologies, components and raw materials needed to get there. We interpret road transport policies, assess new battery and electro-mobility technologies and analyse activity across the battery value chain. Our proprietary scenarios, from the Delayed Transition to our Net Zero view, are key components of our broader energy outlooks, where our country-level modelling reflects country pathways under different energy scenarios.

Outside the Fundamentals team, we work with Wood Mackenzie’s Battery Raw Material teams (part of our Metals & Mining team), who provide industry-leading analysis on the key mined commodities; our Energy Storage team to understand other sources of battery demand; and our Grid Edge and Emissions team, who cover charging networks and emissions-related analysis.

Role Purpose

Working with the other global EVBSC team members, this role will be responsible for delivering Wood Mackenzie’s analysis across the entire battery value chain.

This role will take ownership of the commercial success of EVBSC, working with the Sales and Consulting teams globally to ensure the wider team prioritises the most important areas; that the support is available to support the commercial teams; and the solution and coverage evolve in line with customer demands.

Your remit will be to ensure WoodMac’s thought leadership in the battery, EV and Transport space is at the forefront of the industry; you’ll grow your external profile and be known in the industry, sought after as an external speaker and by WoodMac’s customers, with senior relationships across key companies and stakeholders globally.

Work with other teams across the Battery Value Chain, ensuring successful collaboration and a customer-first approach to everything the teams prioritise. Play a leading part in the evolution of WoodMac’s coverage, responding to changing customer needs and a dynamic industry.

Main Responsibilities

  • Lead content and product roadmap across the Battery Value Chain, with a focus on EVs, battery technologies, components and raw materials.

  • Leadership role within EVBSC and more broadly, Fundamentals; coaching and mentoring others in the team, ensuring a growth mindset and setting the right example for the group.

  • Drive integration with wider teams to ensure a single source of truth as it relates to Wood Mackenzie's Battery Value Chain views.

  • Contribute to, and own where appropriate, WoodMac’s thought leadership across the Battery Value Chain and broader transport sector.

  • Establish, maintain, and develop further senior customer relationships, ensuring WoodMac is the go-to company for the Battery Value Chain and Transport analysis.

  • Work with global sales and consulting teams – with an emphasis on US and Europe-based – to deliver the commercial success of EVBSC solution.

  • Part of a leadership group across the Battery Value Chain, ensuring commercial success, product and content development, operational excellence and more. Collaborating with ETBRMs and ESS teams in particular, with input from Grid Edge, Emissions and more.

Knowledge and Experience

  • Expertise of some area(s) of the Battery Value Chain, specifically Raw Materials, or Technologies and Chemistries.

  • Understanding of related areas to the value chain, including but not limited to: automotive OEMs, transport and industrial policy, energy transition-related technologies.

  • Experience in energy demand, technology adoption and technology cost modelling.

  • Track record of commercial impact in battery and EV analysis.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities. Interested in using both qualitative and quantitative methods to answer market questions.

  • Self-driven. Capable of switching between the roles of an individual contributor and a collaborative leader.

  • Strong communication skills. Comfortable interacting with senior levels amongst customers and industry stakeholders.

  • Passionate, with a deep intellectual curiosity, about the energy and commodity industries.

  • Growth mindset, with a desire to develop yourself and others in the team.
