About the role

The Consultant Biomedical Scientist for the cervical screening service works under the direction of the Cytology Clinical Lead and deputises for the Consultant BMS Lead as required. They will demonstrate advanced knowledge, skills and experience as a clinical cytologist, giving clinical advice on patient management and follow‑up recommendations in line with national guidance, and provide specialist training to departmental staff and service users both inside and outside the Trust.

Responsibilities
  • Report and refer abnormal cervical screening samples.
  • Manage the review of cases for regional colposcopy MDT meetings and review of invasive cases for audit.
  • Take the lead as STP regional pathway manager to ensure inter‑organisational co‑operation, communication and processes are in place to maintain the quality of the whole screening pathway across the STP region within the East of England.
  • Serve as the point of focus for communication between the Norfolk & Waveney cervical screening service and service users across the STP region, liaising with NHS England & NHS Improvement Screening & Imms Team, SQAS Team, Cancer Registry, regional STP NHS Trusts, GP surgeries and community clinics, iCaSH sexual health clinics, HM military and HM Prison institutions.
  • Ensure professionally managed and coordinated arrangements are in place to meet national requirements applicable to the cervical screening programme.

  • Advanced knowledge, skills and experience as a clinical cytologist.
  • Ability to give clinical advice on patient management and follow‑up recommendations in line with national guidance.
  • Experience providing specialist training to departmental staff and service users both inside and outside the Trust.
  • Current UK professional registration (or eligibility to register) where required.

DBS
