Introduction to the Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP) Role

Main Duties of an Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP):

• Patient Assessment: Conduct thorough patient assessments, including history taking and physical examinations.
• Diagnosis and Management: Diagnose and manage a variety of acute and chronic health conditions.
• Treatment Planning: Develop and implement treatment plans, including prescribing medications.
• Provide education and counselling to support patient self-management and health promotion.
• Work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to ensure integrated patient care.
• Referral: Make appropriate referrals to specialists and other healthcareservices.
• Professional Development: Engage in continuing professional development and participate in quality improvement initiatives.
• Leadership: Provide leadership and mentorship to nursing colleagues and junior staff.

West End Clinic, located in Rossington, provides comprehensive care to approximately 4800 patients. The clinic boasts a mixed skill set among its staff, ensuring a wide range of expertise and high-quality patient care. Due to new developments in the area, the clinic is experiencing growth and will soon be relocating to newly built premises to better serve its expanding patient base. The clinic has achieved a 'Good' rating from the Care Quality Commission (CQC), reflecting its commitment to maintaining high standards of care and service.

Role Overview: The Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP) will provide high-quality, patient-centred care within the practice. The ANP will utilise advanced clinical skills to assess, diagnose, and manage a wide range of health conditions, working autonomously and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.

Key Responsibilities:

• Clinical Assessment and Diagnosis: Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, including history taking and physical examinations; diagnose and manage acute and chronic health conditions.
• Treatment and Management: Develop and implement treatment plans, including prescribing medications and therapies; provide expert advice on disease prevention and health promotion.
• Patient Care and Support: Offer patient education and counselling to support self-management and informed decision-making; coordinate care with other healthcare professionals to ensure continuity and quality of care.
• Referral and Collaboration: Make referrals to specialists and other healthcare services as needed; work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to deliver integrated care.
• Professional Development: Engage in continuing professional development to maintain and enhance clinical skills and knowledge; participate in clinical audits, research, and quality improvement initiatives.
• Leadership and Mentorship: Provide leadership and mentorship to junior staff and nursing colleagues; contribute to the development and implementation of practice protocols and policies.

Qualifications and Experience:

• Registered Nurse with a valid NMC PIN.
• Advanced clinical skills and experience in a primary care setting.

• Master\'s degree in Advanced Practice or equivalent qualification.

• Experience: Proven experience in a primary care or similar healthcare setting.
• Experience in managing a wide range of acute and chronic health conditions.
• Skills and Abilities: Advanced clinical skills and the ability to make sound clinical decisions; strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with patients and colleagues; ability to work autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
