Royal Voluntary Service has an opportunity available for a Social Media Manager to join our Communications Team, working from home. You will join us on full-time, fixed term contract for 1 year to cover Maternity Leave, and in return, you will receive a salary of up to £40,307 per annum.

Royal Voluntary Service is a charity that has inspired and mobilised volunteers for nearly 90 years. Its new digital volunteering platform, GoVo, connects volunteers to causes they care about for the benefit of charities across the country.
The Opportunity
The Social Media Manager is responsible for managing the social media team and the social media channels across the charity and the accounts for GoVo. This includes all Royal Voluntary Service national accounts, Royal Voluntary Service local pages and the accounts for the charity’s innovative new volunteering platform, GoVo.
You’ll take the lead planning, creating and delivering high-quality social media content across multiple channels that resonates with our followers (public, volunteer, supporters, third sector and corporates), promotes volunteering and drives engagement with our charity and with GoVo.
Our social media channels currently include Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and LinkedIn.
This is a one-year maternity cover role.
Location and Hours
Location: Home Based with National travel
Hours: 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday
Job Requirements
- Educated to degree level or equivalent experience in a relevant field (e.g., Digital Marketing, Communications, Journalism) or significant experience in a similar digital content role.
- Strong understanding of social media platforms, strategies and best practices.
- Experience developing paid advertising campaigns.
- Knowledge of tactics to appeal to different audiences and follower bases.
- Understanding of analytics and tools.
- Awareness of trends in social media platforms.
Skills

- Proven managerial and work experience.
- Working professionally on a range of social media platforms: TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn.
- Developing engaging content calendars and campaigns.
- Setting up, running, and reporting on paid advertising campaigns.
- Helping to provide high-quality community management and managing busy inboxes.
- Effectively juggling multiple projects and deadlines without a drop in the quality of work.
- Ability to analyse and interpret social media data and to use listening tools such as Brandwatch.
- Providing support and advice to teams/individuals.
- Working within a team (often sharing the same tasks) and working proactively on your own.
Job Responsibilities
This is what you’ll be doing:
Social Media Strategy and Team Management
- Develop and execute a comprehensive social media strategy, ensuring alignment with the charity’s goals and values.
- Maintain the social media policy so that it provides accurate and on‑brand guidance for staff.
- Monitor social media trends, tools and best practices to maximise online performance and presence.
- Lead and mentor the social media team to create compelling and engaging content calendars to raise awareness, inspire action and foster meaningful connections.
- Be the first point of contact for the social media team if any issues arise on social media or there are any crisis moments. This includes safeguarding cases, potential scamming, platform glitches etc.
- Stay across, and research, new emerging platforms and put together action plans.
- Take ownership of our social media budget, ensuring monthly and yearly expenses are managed and that we stay within budget limits. This includes overseeing all social media tool subscriptions.
- Recruit and induct new social media team members if needed, making sure they receive relevant training.
Content Creation
- Plan, develop and schedule social media content that resonates with our followers.
- Take a lead on generating fresh creative ideas for upcoming campaigns and new videos.
- Create and maintain communication toolkits so they contain the most up‑to‑date information, suggested copy and relevant imagery.
- Develop and oversee social media design briefs sent to the in‑house design team and external agencies.
- Work with the team on reactive, time‑sensitive social media posts and assets.
- Help to build up our bank of volunteer, supporter, client and referrer case studies.
- Attend events and help to arrange photoshoots and video shoots to capture new content when needed.
Community Engagement and Growth
- Cultivate and nurture relationships with influencers, corporates, partners, volunteers, referrers and stakeholders to expand our reach and maximise the impact. Often putting together suggested social media posts and creatives for their use.
- Implement innovative strategies to increase our social media following, enhance engagement rates and drive organic growth.
- Engage with our online communities by responding to enquiries, comments and feedback in a timely and professional manner. Any issues to be reported to relevant teams and senior members of staff.
- Where necessary, challenge the behaviour of community members and make recommendations such as taking discussions offline, barring members and/or removing offensive posts.
- Liaise with local RVS teams to grant them access to their regional RVS Facebook pages and encourage them to be as active on social media as possible. Answering any questions or queries and support the Social Media Officer to deliver our social media training sessions.
- Assist the fundraising team with their paid advertising plans and provide them with exported Facebook donor data when needed.
Programme Advocacy, Awareness and Alignment
- Serve as a brand ambassador, ensuring programme messaging and tone of voice are consistently conveyed across all social media channels, reinforcing brand identity and core values.
- Develop and maintain a deep understanding of the charity’s mission and initiatives to effectively communicate our impact to the online community.
- Stay across charity changes, updates, and knowledge base to ensure we are always communicating the right information to our audience. Provide accurate information for our FAQ and Draft Response documents.
- Identify opportunities for collaboration and partnership with like‑minded organisations to amplify our message and broaden our reach.
Advertising, Analytics and Reporting
- Work with the marketing team and with agencies on large‑scale paid advertising campaigns to make sure that internal learnings are shared with them, and best practices are implemented.
- Execute internal paid boosting and advertising campaigns to drive targeted traffic, increase visibility and awareness, hit programme KPIs and generate measurable results.
- Continuously monitor and optimise paid campaigns based on performance metrics, such as click‑through rates, reach and engagement to maximise their impact and drive desired outcomes.
- Track and analyse key social media metrics, providing reports with insights on performance, trends and opportunities for improvement.
- Utilise analytics tools to gain insights into audience demographics, preferences and behaviour, enabling data‑driven decision‑making and the optimisation of our social media strategy.
Occasionally, there may be a duty to cover tasks outside of this job role to cover annual leave, staff absence or during emergencies.
