East Sheen Primary School is a community school in the London Borough of Richmond‑upon‑Thames, a three‑form entry primary school with an excellent and longstanding reputation for providing high standards of education and nurturing happy and confident children. Our governing board works with the headship team to ensure that a well‑rounded, broad‑based and exciting education is provided for all our pupils based around our core values of happiness, curiosity, resilience and kindness.

We are seeking a clerk to governors to provide an efficient and professional clerking service to the governing board at East Sheen Primary School. The clerk plays a vital role in ensuring the smooth running of the governing board, working closely with the chair of governors, headteacher and other governors. The clerk is accountable to the governing board and is involved in preparing agendas and meeting papers, taking accurate and well‑constructed minutes, giving administrative support, keeping records and up‑to‑date information on policies and review dates, and providing procedural and legislative advice to the governing board. For a more detailed description of the role, please see the Job Description and Person Specification attached.

The position is home‑based, but the successful candidate will be expected to attend governor meetings at school, in addition to relevant training sessions.

The Applicant
  • Be reliable, proactive, efficient and well‑organised
  • Have an interest in education and be willing to develop knowledge of education legislation, guidance and legal requirements
  • Be an excellent verbal and written communicator
  • Possess common sense and the ability to work smoothly and harmoniously with others
  • Be able to work flexibly
  • Be an experienced administrator (previous clerking experience desirable)
  • Have excellent ICT skills
  • Be committed to maintaining confidentiality

Experience is desirable but not essential as training will be provided.

This is a part‑time role with all meetings held during term time. Full governing board meetings are usually held in the evening with a 7pm start while committee meetings are held at different times of day, as early as 8am:

  • 4 meetings each year for the Full Governing Board
  • 5 meetings each year for the Teaching & Learning Committee

What we offer
  • The opportunity to be a constructive and valuable part of our school community
  • Supportive and welcoming staff and governing board members
  • The opportunity to work with individuals passionate about the education and wellbeing of pupils
  • Flexible working environment, working around the scheduled termly meetings

The clerk is paid through payroll for hours worked on a monthly or termly basis. Hours payable include the whole meeting process (emails, calls and agenda preparation; writing up and distributing minutes) and training events. Estimated hours total approximately 200‑250 for an academic year.

Closing Date for Applications: Wednesday 3rd December 2025, 12.00 noon

Short listing: Friday 5th December 2025

Interviews: Thursday 11th December 2025
