We are a growing and developing service and are therefore looking to recruit a new Paediatric Physiotherapist to join our team. This is a community post, across the borough of Walsall, with a caseload of children and young people with neurological and developmental conditions.We would like to recruit a Physiotherapist who has some experience in paediatrics and motivated to learn and gain further paediatric experience. The individual should have proven experience, working independently and as part of a team. This is a fantastic opportunity for the right candidate todevelop their clinical skills.

We are an integrated Children's physiotherapy service providing assessment and intervention for children and young people aged 0-19 years with a range of physical and developmental conditions, complex needs and life limiting conditions.

Will consider a Band 5- 6 development post if appropriate for the right candidate

Main duties of the job

We are looking for an enthusiastic HCPC registered Physiotherapist who has the ability to communicate with children of all ages who is passionate work in paediatrics.

Towork as part of multidisciplinary and multi-agency teams to deliver highly specialist interventions according to the agreed service care pathways. You will need to work collaboratively within the integrated team as well as the wider MDT supporting the Team around the Child approach already embedded within the service.

The work will primarily involve delivering care in a variety of settings including special and mainstream schools within the borough, clinics, children's centres and patient homes. The post holder will work closely with the child, family and other professionals involved in the child's care.

There is also an opportunity to develop the clinical experience and skills specific to a variety of clinical pathways (not exclusive to) neonatal inpatient care and follow up, 0-5 complex case management as well as long term conditions, CPIP and SEND

Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust is an integrated Trust and the only provider of NHS acute care in Walsall, serving a population of 284,300. It provides inpatient and outpatient services at the Manor Hospital as well as a wide range of services in the community. Walsall Manor houses the full range of district general hospital services under one roof. The £170 million development was completed in 2010, and ongoing upgrades ensure the Trust now has state-of-the-art facilities, including a Critical Care Unit, Neonatal Unit, Obstetric Theatre, and Integrated Assessment Unit. A new Urgent and Emergency Care Centre, opened in March 2023, has significantly improved emergency care facilities and capacity, providing almost 5,000 square metres of additional clinical space.

Job responsibilities

Multi-agency working is a major part of the role and allows the team to provide person centred, safe and joined up care. As a service we contribute fully to the SEND agenda, including EYSEN and work hard to maintain effective relationships with our local authority colleagues and wider MDT.

To develop and maintain effective working relationships with parents / carers and other stakeholders, using highly developed negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills

To maintain, develop and promote excellence in clinical practice paediatrics, with reference to current research and evidence-based practice,contributing to safe effective practice in the specialist clinical area

  • Carrying out specialist assessments in service area. Developing and implementing a range of programmes of care and treatment to meet the needs of the clients, families and their environments in accordance with agreed pathways in specialist areas
  • Negotiating with multi-disciplinary team colleagues and carers with reference to case management of complex cases including instigating appropriate referrals as appropriate
  • Using specialist knowledge to inform clinical judgements and decision making for complex cases including decisions to discharge
  • Undertaking differential diagnosis of cases and contribute to overall decision-making for complex clients with a range of disorders as part of a team approach
  • Identifying and planning appropriate intervention including delivering assessment and therapy in groups and one-to-one sessions, in accordance with the pathways
  • Taking responsibility for the delegation of therapy programmes to technical instructors within the team, acting as a mentor in line with the local delegation policy
  • To work with children and their parents/carers and the wider team (where appropriate) to develop personalised plans of care to sup[port the achievement of their personal goals and enable greater participation

Providing appropriate treatment based on best practice, adapted to clients needs and priorities including advising other professionals and parent on the appropriate type and level of support needed to develop skills in the home / school environment.

This post offers the chance to manage a mixed caseload of children and young people and you will bring experience of working in partnership with families and carers.
