The post holder will embrace multi-disciplinary working and work as a key member of the MDT. You will also be required to represent the service at key forums and meetings. Excellent leadership, communication and organisational skills are required, and you will need to be able to work effectively both on your own initiative and as part of the team.

• Work in partnership with the Head of Healthcare and other senior colleagues to monitor, challenge and improve the quality of patient care within the prison services.
• Provide overall professional leadership and management to all staff within the teams that make up the Prison Healthcare service.
• Coordinate staff and clinical activity and have overall responsibility for professional development and supervision of practice.
• Offer specialist practical advice on the care and clinical management of users of the services and support staff, other agencies and statutory services to provide integrated services to enable improved health and well-being outcomes for service users.
• Represent the service at key forums and meetings as required.

• Sound knowledge of the national legislation relating to prison services and mental health.
• Evidence of professional leadership and management experience with staff within a healthcare setting.
• Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults; pre-employment checks will be undertaken.
• DBS checks may be required, with cases of criminal record history considered on a case-by-case basis.
• DBS certification may be paid by the applicant (details provided by the Trust) and maintenance of the DBS Update Service may be required.
• All successful applicants will complete the Trust's induction programme; Fundamental (Statutory and Mandatory) training will be online (approximately 9–14 hours depending on post) by the end of week two.
• For sponsorship considerations, applicants must check eligibility criteria for UK work sponsorship; overseas applicants may need to provide relevant safeguarding and visa documentation.
• Relocation expenses may be reimbursed subject to eligibility up to £8,000.
• This role is a secondment; permission from the line manager is required to be released.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a registered health professional to apply for a 12-month secondment for the role of Deputy Head of Healthcare based at HMP Birmingham in the Offender Health Service within Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health Foundation Trust, delivering a model of integrated healthcare in partnership with Birmingham Community Health Care and Cranstoun.
