KTP Associate Role Summary: This is an exciting opportunity to work as a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) Associate on a challenging and strategically important project to develop an innovative satellite communication and tracking system. The Associate will be embedded within Secure Innovation Limited in Saltash, Cornwall, working closely with industry and academic experts to develop and embed a robust, reliable and cost-effective satellite communication system to allow global tracking and monitoring of high value assets. This role provides hands-on experience in satellite communications, electronic engineering, sensor fusion and RF design while driving innovation in the cash protection and logistics sector. You will also be responsible for managing and delivering this 27-month project against the agreed objectives. This will maximise the benefits of the Partnership to Secure Innovation, the academic team and University, whilst gaining valuable person development and industrial experience.

Key Objectives of this project: • Familiarisation and background research to become familiar with Secure Innovation’s personnel, products and services and to determine the scope of the project. • Specify requirements and protocols and to identify and rank alternative development kits and communication modules. • Design, develop and test a robust, effective a reliable satellite communication system for the communication of bi-directional data to tracked assets. • Undertake system integration and optimisation and produce prototypes in readiness for evaluation in-house trials. • Document research findings, contribute to academic publications, and participate in dissemination activities.

Key Accountabilities: • Execute the KTP project plan as agreed with the Local Management Committee. • In collaboration with the project team, ensure that knowledge transfer is delivered between the business / organisation and Plymouth University. This job description provides a general reflection of the key accountabilities associated with the post, it is expected that the role holder will undertake any other reasonable activities to assist in efficient service delivery • To maintain and present project management documentation (including a Gantt chart) to manage the project effectively. • Maintain effective communication between Secure Innovation, the University of Plymouth, and external stakeholders. • Ensure timely project delivery, including reporting progress and risks to the management team. • Organise and lead monthly project team meetings, providing updates on research findings and development progress. • To actively contribute to the 4-monthly Local Management Committee meetings. To provide a written executive summary to the members and formally present a project update with proposals for future plans during the meetings. To identify additional resources and to highlight risks, seeking guidance and assistance as required meeting project needs and objectives. • To collaborate in the development of academic papers, case studies and PR opportunities as agreed with the project team. • To be responsible for planning own personal and professional development including maintenance of a Personal Development Plan. • To participate in development and promotional events such as presenting and exhibiting at a KTP Regional Seminar or Faculty research seminar. • To maintain an on-going benefits’, register for the Partnership and to compile a detailed final report at the end of the KTP Project for external evaluation. • At all times to act as an ambassador for Plymouth University and Knowledge Transfer Partnerships. Special requirements: • Requirement to travel to support the needs of the KTP Project and own personal development. • Attendance at relevant KTP training modules and professional development sessions. • A requirement to comply with the standards that apply at Secure Innovationand to pass their Security Screening process in accordance with BS 7858.

Person Specification - Knowledge, Education & Training:

Essential: • MSc/MPhil or PhD in a topic related to RF Communications, Satellite Communications, Satellite Systems and Digital Signal Processing or equivalent experience. • BEng/BSc with a minimum 2.1 in a relevant subject such as Electronic Engineering, Physics, or similar. • Familiarity with RF circuits and mobile communications. • The successful candidate must be capable of passing Security Screening in accordance with BS 7858 to ensure continued employment.

Desirable: • Experience of Digital Signal Processing and Filtering technique development. • Familiarity with embedded systems and system security. • Ability to contribute to, and work within QA system, such ISO is highly desirable. • Experience working in industry is desirable, specifically within the electronic engineering sector. • Knowledge of IT security principles and firmware development. • Development of SOPs to embed knowledge.

Personal Attributes: • Highly numerate, with well-developed problem-solving skills. • Need to be methodical and tenacious. • Proven ability to lead a project from the engineering/scientific perspective. • Need to span all business areas and liaise with suppliers and customers so excellent communication skills are paramount. • Excellent communication skills to span all areas in the business and liaise with regulatory bodies and customers. • Team player.
