A leading mental health service provider in Birmingham seeks a Specialty Doctor for its forensic outreach service. The role involves comprehensive assessments and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to improve patient outcomes in community care. Candidates must have full registration with the GMC and relevant training experience. Join a dedicated team committed to enhancing mental health services for diverse populations.
This is an exciting opportunity to join our forensic outreach service known as FIRST (Forensic Intensive Recovery and Support Team). The FIRST team provides community care across a large and diverse catchment area, for patients who have been discharged from secure inpatient care.
The overarching aims are to facilitate early discharge from inpatient care and reduce the need for avoidable re‑admissions to secure care. The team achieves this by providing flexible and responsive, recovery‑focussed, person‑centred mental health care.
The post holder will have the opportunity to work with a range of inpatient secure providers, contribute to service development and quality improvement, and, as part of a multidisciplinary team, play a key role in enabling the recovery of service users.
The FIRST Specialty Doctor will work with the multidisciplinary team to provide excellent community care for service users.
Applicants must have full registration with the General Medical Council with completion of four years postgraduate training, at least two of which will be within a psychiatry training programme or equivalent experience and competences.
All successful applicants will be required to complete the Trust’s induction programme. The Fundamental (Statutory and Mandatory) training will be in an e‑learning format; training modules (approx. 9‑14 hours depending on post) must be completed online by the end of the second week.
As part of our safe recruitment practice, pre‑employment DBS checks will be undertaken before any appointment is confirmed. Applicants may be required to undergo a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check; all cases of criminal record history are dealt with on a case‑by‑case basis. If applicable, candidates will be required to cover the cost of the DBS certificate. This will be deducted from salary over three months. Applicants must sign up to the DBS Update Service before commencement with the Trust, and the Trust will reimburse this cost; applicants are contractually obliged to maintain their subscription.
The Trust is committed to treating individuals fairly and ensuring they have the same opportunities to fulfil their potential, even if this means doing things differently for different people sometimes. We are working hard to ensure our workforce reflects the diversity within Birmingham and Solihull and that our services meet the needs of all diverse service users and carers.
Following shortlisting, applicants may be contacted via email for interview details. The selection process may involve more than one interview or assessment. Applications from job seekers who require sponsorship to work in the United Kingdom (UK) are welcome and will be considered alongside all other applications.
Applicants must check if this role meets the eligibility criteria for sponsorship. The minimum salary threshold for a Health and Social Care visa is £25,000 and for the Skilled Worker route is £38,700. If the starting salary for this role is below this, sponsorship may not be possible.
Relocation expenses may be reimbursed subject to eligibility, up to £8,000. Overseas applicants applying for entry clearance into the UK must present a criminal record certificate from each country they have resided in continuously or cumulatively for 12 months or more in the past 10 years.
