Job description
About the role

As a Construction Health & Safety Advisor for Eastern Green Link 2 (EGL2), you’ll help shape one of the most significant strategic energy infrastructure developments the UK has seen in recent years.

EGL2 is a 505km electricity superhighway which will enable the transfer of power from Scotland to England (and vice versa as required) via a subsea cable. The two-gigawatt, high voltage direct current (HVDC) cable is connecting Peterhead in Aberdeenshire and Drax in North Yorkshire - making it the longest electricity transmission project to be constructed in the UK!

And this is your opportunity to provide Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) expertise to Strategic Infrastructure projects including Overhead Line, Substation and Cable works. You’ll actively engage, coach, and positively influence managers, staff and our contractor partners to deliver legislative compliance and promote continuous improvement - helping to create, achieve and sustain world class HSE performance.

In this role you can enjoy our hybrid working from office/site and home. You’ll be flexible to travelling to sites in North Yorkshire 2-3 days per week and will require a current full UK driving licence.

Key accountabilities
  • To support the implementation and delivery of company HSE strategies within Strategic Infrastructure projects and including joint venture partners (JV).
  • Support the onsite Leadership HSE tours and inspections including those coordinated with our JV partners and contractor partners.
  • Provide CDM expertise and advice to the project team including JV partners, working to manage interfaces and ensure that statutory compliance is achieved.
  • Encourage the adoption of best practice initiatives and look for opportunities to make HSE improvements working alongside our contractor partners HSE teams.
  • Support accident / incident investigations to establish root causes, providing expert advice, support and guidance on legal framework and communicate learning points.
  • Provide independent HSE Assurance advice and audit capability to Strategic Infrastructure project teams through design, pre-construction & construction, testing & commissioning phases.
About you
  • Thorough knowledge of HSE legislation and behavioural safety programs with proven experience working in a similar construction HSE role.
  • Seen as a trusted subject matter expert with a great understanding and working knowledge of the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 with demonstrable experience managing interfaces between contractors, working with duty holders, and ensuring compliance.
  • Experienced in the development and implementation of robust assurance programs including communicating these at a site level.
  • Experienced in auditing and root cause analysis techniques.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with proven skills in coaching and motivating people.
  • Ability to communicate and influence effectively at all organisational levels.
  • NEBOSH General Certificate (OHS) or Construction Certificate/Health and Safety Management for Construction (UK)
  • HNC / HND or equivalent in an engineering/construction related discipline.
What you’ll get

A competitive salary between £54,000 - £65,000 - dependent on capability.

As well as your base salary, you will receive a job requirement company car, a bonus based on personal and company performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%. You will also have access to a number of flexible benefits such as a share incentive plan, salary sacrifice car and technology schemes, support via employee assistance lines and matched charity giving to name a few.
