Locum Consultant in Diagnostic Neuroradiology

This is a 10 PA locum appointment for a Consultant Radiologist, with special interests in Neuroradiology. This post will be available from January 2026 for a period of 6 months.

The post will deliver 10 PAs supporting the Neuroradiology team Dr Mark Igra, Dr David Saunders, Dr Jeremy MacMullen‑Price, Dr Helen Cliffe, Dr Daniel Warren, Dr Yuan Kheng, Dr Stuart Currie, Dr Ian Craven, & Dr Tony Goddard. The post‑holder will provide Neuroradiology. There will be opportunities to contribute to Neuroradiology MDTs.

The post will be based at Leeds General Infirmary.

Thesuccessful applicant should hold accreditation in FRCR in the Royal College of Radiologists or equivalent, and should be on the Specialist Register or within six months of being admitted to the Register for trainees if currently in a training programme within the UK, or have references which have been authorised by the Deputy Medical Director and Clinical Director.

Applicants should have established skills in Neuroradiology. Excellent communication and team working skills, a strong commitment to teaching and service development are essential.

Main duties of the job

The appointee will be required to contribute to the existing diagnostic neuroradiology workload, in a regional Neurosciences Centre covering a catchment population of 3 million plus patients. The department serves patients under the care of clinicians in tertiary referral specialties including Adult Neurosurgery, Adult Neurology, Adult Neuro‑Oncology, Paediatric Neurosurgery, Paediatric Neurology and Paediatric Neuro‑Oncology, in addition to providing support to clinicians in the Hyper‑Acute Stroke Unit and in general hospital specialties including ED, Medicine, Trauma and Orthopaedics, ENT and Paediatrics. The appointee will be required to contribute to Specialist Multi‑disciplinary team meetings.

In addition, the appointee will link with Consultant colleagues in other relevant site specialist teams within the Department of Clinical Radiology and across the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and will work with colleagues in Diagnostic Neuroradiology to deliver acute on‑call (currently 1 in 10) for Neuroradiology. This includes both out‑of‑hours cover in addition to acute ward rounds during normal working hours.

There will also be an opportunity to contribute to research, teaching, and new developments within Neuroradiology. The post holder will be encouraged to facilitate and contribute to the current clinical research programs ongoing in the department.

Job responsibilities

The appointee must be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in all aspects of Radiology and appropriate experience in Neuroradiology, and in particular Neuroradiology. It is desirable that candidates have experience in the conduct of clinical trials.

Experience
  • Must be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence Diagnostic Neuroradiology.
  • Must demonstrate higher training in Diagnostic Neuroradiology.
  • Evidence of continuous career progression consistent with personal circumstances.
  • Competence in diagnostic myelography.
Clinical, Academic, and Personal Skills
  • Evidence of the ability to carry out medical research.
  • Previous experience of supervising research by junior staff.
  • Experience in training undergraduate medical students and postgraduate doctors.
  • Experience of participation in regular clinical audit.
Qualifications
  • Higher degree e.g. MD/PhD relevant to the subspecialty of Diagnostic Neuroradiology
Eligibility, Fitness to practice, and Language Skills
  • Eligible for full registration with the GMC at time of appointment and hold a current licence to practice.
  • Eligibility to work in the UK.
  • All applicants to have demonstrable skills in written and spoken English adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients/colleagues demonstrated by one of the
  • following: – achieved the minimum score of 7 across all 4 of the following categories in the academic International English Language Testing System (IELTS).
  • in a single sitting within 24 months at time of application Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing. (An overall minimum score of 7.5) OR,
  • Achieved the minimum Grade B across all 4 of the following categories in the Occupational English Test (OET) in medicine in a single sitting within 24 months at time of application .
  • Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing. (You must provide your candidate number).
  • Is up to date and fit to practise safe.
  • Applicants must be on the Specialist Register or within six months of being admitted to the Register for trainees if currently in a training programme within the UK or have references which have been authorised by the Deputy Medical Director and Clinical Director.
