Go back Cardiff and Vale University Health Board

Consultant in Paediatric Respiratory Medicine

The closing date is 11 January 2026

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a new Consultant in Paediatric Respiratory Medicine to join the team at the Children's Hospital for Wales in Cardiff. This post has arisen due to recognition of expanding service need and as part of an uplift from a 3 to 5‑strong Consultant body. A sub‑specialty interest would be welcomed.

Cardiff and Vale University Health Board is recognised as a teaching centre of excellence in a wide range of clinical services.

Although this post is full‑time, consideration will be given to applicants who require flexible working arrangements.

Applicants should either be on the Specialist Register or be a Specialist Registrar within six months of their expected date of receipt of a CCT at the time of interview.

You will be able to take advantage of the excellent Consultant contract for Wales. The basic salary range for this post is £110,240 per annum to £160,951 per annum.

Applicants must ensure they provide names and contact details of referees covering at least the last 3 years of their employment/training history in full. In addition, applicants who are currently or have most recently been employed as a substantive Consultant or as a Locum Consultant in post for more than 12 months must also provide the name of their Medical Director as an additional referee.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will take an equal share in the service week rota as attending Consultant in paediatric respiratory medicine, supervising junior staff covering ward work and taking all new specialist in‑patient and outpatient referrals from across South, West and Mid Wales. The five Consultants will contribute equally to cover the sleep week, cystic fibrosis, bronchoscopy and asthma services, respiratory clinics and outreach services. Applicants must have a clear commitment to the holistic delivery of respiratory paediatrics.

Academic interests will be encouraged; research and teaching in collaboration with Cardiff University's School of Medicine will be expected.
