We are looking for an assistant audiologist to join our adult audiology department at Cwm Taf Morgannwg Health Board.

The successful candidate will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, be positive and motivated, will show initiative and take a forward-thinking approach to achieving goals, and working within a multi-disciplinary team. This post involves the provision of daily hearing aid repair services, often in very busy clinics. You will be trained to service and repair hearing aids, as well as provide counselling on use of hearing aids, assistive listening devices and communication tactics. You will assist with stock control, ordering, and general administrative duties.

The postholder will be based at Princess of Wales, Bridgend but will be expected to travel regularly across sites to deliver services, as needed.

This is a full-time role, Monday‑Friday. This role could form a job share, so we would encourage those who want part‑time hours to apply. Exact working hours to be agreed on successful application.

Main duties of the job

To interact and communicate effectively with patients and members of the public of all ages that have varying degrees of hearing or sensory impairment, be terminally ill or have learning or mental health difficulties. This will always require consideration and awareness of their specific needs and will require significant emotional effort.

To carry out a range of clerical tasks on a day‑to‑day basis. This will include sending appointment letters, adding data and updating patients’ records to patient record systems.

To autonomously and actively participate in the hearing aid repair service. This will include performing electroacoustic and listening checks on hearing aids, rectifying faults with hearing aids and taking ear moulds impressions of adult and appropriate paediatric patients.

The post holder will use otoscopy to identify contraindications to safe impression taking. Using specific analytical and judgemental skills, the post holder will determine the most appropriate audiological management pathway.

Welsh Skills Desirable: This post is advertised as Welsh Desirable at Level 3 Speaking/Listening (or ‘B1’ Level if you’ve learnt Welsh as an adult). This doesn’t mean you have to be fluent or able to write long reports in Welsh; it just means being able to hold simple conversations with patients.
