Job description
Overview

Progression Coaches inspire young people to step outside their comfort zone, develop new skills and behaviours, and move towards independent living. Using youth work and trauma-informed approaches, you will:

  • Listen to and be led by each young person's needs, ambitions and strengths.
  • Champion their ability to acquire skills for a positive, healthy adulthood.
  • Act as a reliable, aspirational role model with clear professional boundaries.
  • You will receive high-quality training in emotional literacy, regulation, conflict de-escalation, mental health first aid, safeguarding, wellbeing, financial empowerment, boundaries, creativity, and group skills.
Key Responsibilities
  • Manage a caseload, delivering at least two weekly coaching sessions plus one group session per young person.
  • Provide asset-based coaching to build emotional, physical and social resilience.
  • Offer light-touch support for young people moving out of the service.
  • Create and maintain risk assessments and support plans, ensuring safeguarding is central.
  • Support family reconciliation where possible through meetings, assessments and pathway plans.
  • Empower young people to share honest feedback and actively shape the service.
  • Work with Response to maintain safe, positive home environments.
  • Keep accurate records, incident reports and complaints handling.
General Duties
  • Attend team meetings and supervision.
  • Keep up to date with policy developments and follow Oxfordshire Youth procedures.
  • Complete all pre-employment checks as required.
  • Undertake training for personal and professional development.
  • Carry out other tasks that contribute to the growth and sustainability of the charity.
Safeguarding

Safeguarding children, young people and adults is everyone's responsibility. You will undertake appropriate training, DBS checks and supervision, ensuring all concerns are addressed in line with Oxfordshire Youth policies.

Essential
  • At least 2 years' experience in a Youth Worker or Support Worker role (or equivalent).
  • Understanding of issues affecting young people (mental health, substance misuse, sexual health, homelessness, asylum seeking).
  • Team player, creative thinker and problem solver.
  • Full UK driving licence and access to vehicle.
  • Strong IT skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, CRM) and excellent communication.
  • Flexible, able to work irregular hours and under pressure to deadlines.
  • Skilled in assessing and managing risk.
  • Commitment to Oxfordshire Youth's values, equality and inclusion.
  • Integrity, discretion and accountability for personal learning and development.

  • Level 3 in Youth Work (or working towards/aspiration to achieve).
  • At least 2 years' direct work with children/young people.
  • Qualifications in related fields (mental health, social care, youth development).
  • Experience handling concerns/complaints from young people or organisations.
  • Experience in the UK non-profit sector.
