Overview
As a Wireless Installation Technician, you'll be at the heart of delivering the University's Improving Wireless Rollout Programme. Working alongside the Installation Officer, you'll assist with planning, basic configuration, and installation of wireless infrastructure across University buildings.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and label hardware, support third-party contractors with installations, carry out wireless audits, and help ensure Wi‑Fi access points are correctly installed and live.
- Maintain accurate stock records, update the Wi‑Fi platform (Juniper Mist), and respond to first-line support queries.
- Collaborate with University departments, suppliers, and IT colleagues to ensure installations are completed on time, on budget, and to requirements.
- Deputise for the Installation Officer when needed and contribute ideas for continuous improvement to make the programme more effective.
Qualifications
- A good standard of education (minimum GCSEs or equivalent) and/or relevant experience in a technical support or installation role.
- The ability to work methodically and accurately in a busy technical environment.
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal, with the confidence to work with colleagues across departments and with external partners.
- A proactive, adaptable, and reliable approach, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Basic IT skills, including familiarity with networking concepts, and a willingness to learn and apply new technical processes.
